I have an early memory of Godzilla 1985 on tv, but the American version of the original is the first one I remember watching all the way through.

My first one was King Kong vs Godzilla (1962). Saw it on the Sci Fi channel as a kid and thought it was hype as gently caress. This was right before the American Godzilla came out and I was amped. Saw it in the theater with my dad and I was so disappointed I cried.

It was really good, sad as you might expect. A lot of ground to cover in a movie so they had to leave one of the brothers out. I wasn’t crazy about Zac Efron but the cast in general is solid. Reminded me of The Wrestler in terms of tone. There’s a scene with the dead brothers hanging out in the afterlife and it’s like… I’m not sure how I felt about it. Kind of corny but sweet.
