I started The Surge 2 (probably my last game I'll start this year) and it's clearly more of the first but with a better combat system.

Levels feel more linear which has its good and bad things about it. It seems like they often just give you a shortcut back to the same medbay and you keep making forward progress.

I can't wait for 2024, the games are gonna be insane. I've got basically four weeks to complete as many games on my backlog before LIKE A DRAGON INFINITE WEALTH

and the way the director talks about that game scares me. It's gonna be so insanely big.

yeah the physical copy is from asia/japan, they've all got english language translations in-game but only the singapore "english version" as the box with english text if you want some consistency in the collection. theres some dudes selling them on ebay locally if you wanna avoid loving around

Yeah Play Asia sells the english version. Was only $45 too which is pretty drat good.

I've played 7, so yeah I'm good with spoilers but I have yet to play 5 and 6. Gonna play 5 once I finish up the Cyberpunk DLC which is excellent.

I finally got around to playing GoW Ragnarok (It's on sale on the psn store) and what a wonderful game.

Helldivers 2 and FFVII rebirth are my two most anticipated games by far
Bit embarassing to see Destiny 2 on that list though. Sony needs to quietly move Bungie on, bandcamp-style

That seems a bit premature. They're in a rut at the moment - which will probably last another five years at least (long enough for Marathon to flop and for them to get going on something else), but I don't think they're out of the game.

They've been out of the game for years. The game's only bright spot (witch queen) has been comprehensively proven to be a fluke.
Every day that $4b purchase looks like more and more of a bad deal. They just aren't on the same level as Sony's other studios and they won't ever be. They're the anathema of Sony's vision, a gaas sweatshop with no new ideas in a long time. All they do is hawk poo poo on their in-game store, and it's right there on the Sony page that they are still splitting content like dungeons off to a separate paid pass. Their next game is a tarkov style extraction shooter for christ's sake.

Ya I get some aspects of game monetization has gone really off the rails but imo I would say the content in most games is better than ever. And if you like multiplayer games, heck there is like an endless amount of option of free games, there is gamepass which is great price for value and Sony is still making great singleplayer games(for now...). Like wherever you play whether its on pc, or any of the console its probably the best time to be gaming.

The first few months are so stacked but I am most looking forward to Persona 3 Reload, FF7 Rebirth, Rise of The Ronin, Dragons Dogma 2 and Yakuza Infinite Wealth(ya im not calling it like a dragon). Also there was some sort of leak suggesting Elden Ring DLC is coming out in 25th of February the same day the game released.

Yeah there's so many good games you can easily ignore all the bad stuff.

I'm gonna be so busy between Infinite Wealth, FF7 Rebirth and Rise of the Ronin.

Persona 3 reload and dragons dogma 2 would get me through the summer as well and there's some smaller stuff I want to get like Apollo Justice.

here’s my wrap up post on it

Oxxidation posted:

as for the plot (full game spoilers) it's a 20-hour shaggy dog story that gradually loses coherence as it focuses on being as unrelentingly cruel to the protagonists as possible. i like misery porn and Requiem is a fine example of it, but it doesn't have much to say under the torture of its characters - it sort of alludes to the destructive power of love in the last act, but not enough so that i'd consider it an overarching theme. every time amicia and hugo get a breather it's only so the plot can slam them down twice as hard an hour later. the worst contrivance is when their mother comes back for five minutes in the last act only to promptly get murdered in front of her kids. it gets dangerously close to farce

the first game was grim but still felt like a scrappy adventure for the most part, whereas this is more Spec Ops: The French. amicia's crusade to save hugo is borne half out of sisterly love and half out of vicious spite towards a world that wants him dead, which is a neat dynamic, but it means that she plainly doesn't give a poo poo about the thousands of casualties from her personal crusade. between games she's shifted from a long-suffering defender of her family to a PTSD-added wreck who drags her five-year old brother through atrocity after atrocity (despite his increasingly hysterical pleas for her to stop) until he becomes suicidal from the stress, and it's all for nothing - the siblings don't accomplish anything they set out to do by the time the game's over. every goal they set out toward either turns out to be a falsehood or derailed by another senseless act of violence from the people around them. and whereas the Inquisition from the first game was malicious from the start, most of the villainous characters in Requiem only end up that way as a direct result of the horror that hugo and amicia drag in their wake. amicia goes off the rails in the early game from a doctor plainly telling her that hugo's incurable, kills half of france looking for increasingly obscure ways to cure him, and finally ends up having to euthanize him before his super-plague literally turns off the sun. the only, really tarnished silver lining is that no one else had a better idea, since it's implied that the secret order of alchemists wanting to "treat" hugo were really just going to lock him in an oubliette and experiment on him until he plague-nuked france out of despair. the supporting cast is strong and the french VA was solid, but i can't imagine most people would be thrilled by a plot so desolate

conclusion: take a look if you're interested in a AA Feel Bad Simulator with some great vistas, emphasis on "Feel Bad"

like it can’t be overstated how every square kilometer of earth the siblings set foot in is instantly doomed from their presence. if someone gave Hugo a puppy to hold it would burst into flames

And as if that wasn't enough, the final post-credits stinger implies that if the series continues the next one will take place in modern times.

Nuking both the core character relationships and the unique setting in one stroke is certainly a big swing, I'll give them that. But it really feels like the sort of big swing that leads to the catcher getting accidentally hit in the nuts

Yeah the Requiem post credit sting really had me wondering who was supposed to care about it. Like, if Star Wars had ended with a stinger that read “a long time later…” and showed a kid in the present day USA using the force to pick up a spoon. You just ditched 90% of your franchises identity!

As memory serves the plague likes specific criteria so presumably they could have a modern pair that are basically clones of the original pair, same VA and all. If they do make a (presumably) final part then they could go a sort of Assassin's Creed approach where the modern pair are running around looking for clues (and obliterating Paris) left behind by Amelie and her alchemist buddy, and maybe those two finding other clues from the Party Island predecessors, but a large portion of the game is still set in 11th century Europe as a big flashback. I don't recall the games ever explaining the "why" of the plague so there's plenty of opportunity to have the modern protags get told by not-Pope Benedict what the origin of the plague is and why he needs it's ultimate power.

Ya those are all pretty beefy games. I am for a vacation so I'll probably have to play catchup. That's like 4 JRPGs(Rise of Ronin will also be replayable) goddamit.

Ya I had never played Ace Attorney until they ported it out of the DS system.
