I POSTED WHAT NOW!?
It will be worth it! Keep your spirit up!

On topic of parties, I teach, so I generally don’t have huge ones. However, people usually will bring in baking and stuff all the time and when it’s someone’s birthday they bring in a birthday snack. So I can usually eat pretty nice at least one a month at work.

My work also gives out 50$ Home Hardware gift cards for Christmas which I just sell to my parents because I don’t own a home or anything that necessities me going to home hardware. I really should talk to management about that, see if I can’t get an Amazon or book store one instead, I’d use those.

cuz I really like it and it's slightly spicy to me but also I am basically a vampire with how white I am so I don't usually do spicy at all so it could be a 0 on the scale for all I know

I would give it a 3, maybe a 4, since I haven't had Coco's Ichi nor that kimchi ramen in years. I don't think the spice gradient that Coco's Ichi uses is universal though. Also, FYI Coco's Ichi shouldn't be confused with http://www.cocosbakery.com/ which also has restaurants in Japan.

If anyone's flying in through Narita Int and need a cell phone that works in Japan -----> https://www.narita-airport.jp/en/service/svc_19_2/.
Last time I checked, Japan uses different radio tech, and only iphones worked (as long as you have an activated Japanese SIM card for it) regardless of country of origin. Things may have changed since. I recommend Google Lens/Translate to help translate as needed.

If anyone's serious about climbing Mt. Fuji -----> https://www.tripsavvy.com/complete-guide-to-climbing-mount-fuji-5176475.
I recommend going with a tour group to climb it, because if you get lost/injured ascending/descending Fuji someone will need to contact emergency services for you. It's roughly a six hour climb and the air thins as you climb, so you WILL get a cardio workout. Bring a camera, there are some nice views during the climb/at the top. I also recommend buying one of the climbing sticks, so you can get it branded at each station.

Man, I write about 600 words and then I get stumped on how to proceed next. Like i can visualize in my head how i want a scene to read and sound but when it comes to actually typing it my fingers refuse and my brain shuts off. Wish I could just get a stream of consciousness thing going and then go back later to tidy it all up.

just keep writing putting the ideas on a scratch pad. when you come back read where you left off and see if it inspires you. there's no right or wrong to creative processes. if it works for you, it works; no matter how convoluted or silly it may seem at first

if youre writing it on the computer (or well typing) one thing i do is just turn off my phone and turn off my router. a big part of the barrier is 'ugh ill go do smething else for 10 minutes and then come back' and then an hour passes, at least for me. making it more inconvenient to tab away to do something else makes it easier to push past.

I lived in Kanagawa for years and can write/share my experiences without any problems, the only issue I have is deciding which ones tourists visiting Japan would want to read about (disclaimer: I was stationed there).

If you've played Shenmu, and remember Dobuita Street -----> https://maps.app.goo.gl/VMUqx2eQrFuScHpf6. Yes, you can find American sailors there, back in the 1980s, and even now. The Honcho (pronouced honch, with silent 'o') Crawl is just another name for bar hopping there.

Kabukicho https://maps.app.goo.gl/FjdhJpoPvfqXJzJ67 isn't as shady and dangerous as the LAD/Yakuza games make it out to be. Yes, there's lots of host/hostess clubs there, but most people just go to Golden Gai https://maps.app.goo.gl/irmwyMx6bKYUWnFbA or the now closed Robot Restaurant https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attract...ture_Kanto.html, or any of the other entertainment businesses there.

But if you do want to see some shady stuff, then go to Roppongi https://maps.app.goo.gl/vWzNT2UH2AnewFAJA at night. Here you'll get aggressively asked if you want to drink at the tout's associated bar/club. Politely decline and walk away, there's better places here for nightlife activities. This place is full of ex-pats/foreigners, so you'll largely be understood if you speak english. https://japantravel.navitime.com/en/area/jp/guide/NTJtrv0074-en. Yes, you might also find American sailors here on the weekends. Also, watch your wallet here, in all my years in Japan, this is the only place where anyone I knew got pickpocketed.

If you want to just sit at a pub and watch a soccer/football game -----> https://www.pub-hub.com/index.php/en/shop/detail/16. There's a bunch of these all over Tokyo/Kanagawa.

Or maybe you want to go on a beer factory tour https://www.asahibeer.co.jp/brewery/language/english/.

If you like ramen, you can check out the Nissin Cupnoodles Museum https://www.cupnoodles-museum.jp/en/, or the ramen museum in Shin-Yokohama https://www.raumen.co.jp/english/.

If you're a Gundam nerd, you can see a moving RX-78-2 at the Gundam Factory in Yokohama https://gundam-factory.net/en/, or go to Odaiba and see the Unicorn Gundam there https://en.japantravel.com/tokyo/unicorn-gundam-statue-in-odaiba/41317. I only saw the RX-78-2 back when it was in Odaiba.

If you love huge civil engineering projects, this is one of the coolest tours you can take https://www.tokyoweekender.com/japan-life/take-tour-tokyos-underground-temple-concrete/.

RuBisCO, since you mentioned being there March/April, might I interest you in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kanamara_Matsuri (NSFW). It's just a normal Shinto festival in Kawasaki.

Kamakura https://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2166.html is a good spot if you want to see lots of temples and shrines. My favorite is the Zeniarai Benten Shrine https://www.japan-guide.com/e/e3111.html.

When visiting Kyoto, aside from Kyomizu-dera, I also recommend visiting Kinkaku-ji https://www.japan-guide.com/e/e3908.html. And the Sagano Bamboo Forest https://www.tripsavvy.com/kyoto-bamboo-forest-the-complete-guide-4582365.

drat i was like 15 when I first downloaded this show and it exposed me to an all new side and genre of horror works. I love this poo poo!!!!

I don't hate Gou/Sotsu like a lot of people do but man oh man the original show being remade would have been the better and more correct choice I think. replacing that 2005-era DEEN art would do wonders for it as an adaption I think.

The Colonel

I commute by bike!
there's no good way to adapt higurashi into an anime without it being like 70 episodes long. the problem with the deen anime wasn't the art it's that it was trying to turn six chapters of a guy's weird rambly but endearing amateur horror story into 26 coherent episodes of anime and cutting basically anything from that time is cutting someone's favorite scene because the essence of higurashi is a billion different random things happening that only vaguely relate to each other but the way they relate to each other is a way that someone out there loves

the problem with sotsugyou was that ryukishi had a decent idea but no real clear ideas of how to pull it off and whoever was asking him to come up with it wanted 26 episodes while the core essence of what he had was like. six episodes worth of stuff

The Colonel
Jun 8, 2013

I commute by bike!
it's not that it's confusing it's that half of the story is built on random tone-setting scenes that the anime cuts because they'd make no sense in anime form. kai gets around this by coming up with new ideas to fill those scenes in with but the first season doesn't do it at all so a lot of pathos is gone

The Colonel
Jun 8, 2013

I commute by bike!
like the anime version of chapter 5 isn't incoherent but it loses half of the contextualization for shion so it's just her going nuts for vague reasons for a few episodes and then the entire ending of the chapter has to get moved into the start of season 2 cause they skipped it

like to be clear. the anime does function as a version of the story. but. it only functions because they spend like three episodes in season 2 rushing back to cover every scene they skipped for time that turned out to be thematically critical. the majority of higurashi kai is them making tactical moves to cover for how bad season 1 was
