If I'm sure about something I won't look it up on my phone to prove it to somebody else, but I won't really argue about it either. I just say "nah, you're wrong" in a matter-of-fact way and let them look it up if they want to.

I was arguing with someone who loved to argue so much that he disagreed with me that halo 1 was called combat evolved. He still said no when I showed him the image on google. I was mad as hell

I suppose you could also have a semantic argument about what qualifies as a title vs. a tagline. If you wanted to be annoying.

I'm at the point where I'm learning to not argue, especially as I now have a neurodivergent child who likes to be right exactly as much as I do and will absolutely drag you into an unrelated argument when anything else is happening. Anyway I'm learning to just sidestep any argument, the best is responding to someone you know is wrong with a patronizing smile and "oh okay" or "that's nice."

Yeah, I'm currently watching the second season of 30 Coins where Giamatti is the main bad guy. You can tell he's a good actor because he manages to deliver incredibly cliché lines like - "It's close. I can feel it!" - in an entertaining way. Also, he gets to casually sass the devil. Overall, the second season continues the high pulp stylings of the first season. It makes me think about the books in "Paperbacks from Hell", which I bought on the recommendation of this thread. Edit: Oh yeah, and I really enjoy all the location shooting in the Vatican and so on. Hell yeah, Creation is a good time. So is Annabelle Comes Home actually, which could go a little bit further than it does into the concept (some idiot kid opened the Warrens' Hell Jail and a bunch of poo poo gets loose in the house) but is lightyears above the original Annabelle for entertainment value. I think The Boy II probably took into account from The Boy that they heard people complaining about it not ACTUALLY being a haunted doll and just being some dude in the walls and decided to "fix" it and goddamn does it suck.

Ok someone suggested I do this and I figured maybe people would get a kick out of seeing the movies or it could spark some discussion or something. I enjoyed Comes Home as well. I coulda used more crazy ghosts but there was still a pretty nice variety and I wonder if they're shopping around some kind of movie or show based around the other stuff from that museum. It'd be a fun anthology show, at least. I'm also a giant nerd because there's a tiny scene where they go to a grocery store and pass a comic spinner rack. I recognized a Swamp Thing comic from there and was enough of a weird geek to recognize that it actually did track with the time frame of the movie. So to whatever production designer put that in there, if you're out there, I see you and appreciate you.

The Boy II was in a weird place where the first had a fun surprise but you couldn't do the same surprise again. I'd have gone with "elf on the shelf"ing a creepy non-haunted doll like in the first film, but now it's a gross haunted doll moving it around.

Night House's few trick shots of the entity are really cool and clever and Hall is great as always but I kind of hated where they went with it in the final act. I was hoping for something about building sacred geometry into the house itself or something cultish, or the accidental evilness of the house took him over, not "my wife's getting Final Destinationed and death is possessing me into killing her, maybe if I kill a bunch of women that kinda look like her in a house that kinda looks like our house I can beat death."

Extreme same. To the point that I’m worried I’m basically mad at the movie for not reading my mind. I should really watch it a second time and see if I’m more forgiving if I know where it’s going. A lot of the sequences are very well done, and if nothing else it’s some XXX hardcore house porn.

It felt like it swerved at the end towards a less satisfying direction than it was setting up earlier. It also leads to a kinda unfortunate message if you've been interpreting the "nothing" as a manifestation of her depression/desire to self harm up to that point, then it turns out that it was contagious and she gave it to her husband. But depression doesn't work that way, one of her friends even says that at one point, but then the movie shows that happening anyway. The final line is also really on the nose. It's a shame because most of the movie is really good, it just stumbles at the end.

The Night House is pretty boring and meh. Hellraiser was fine and I think gets too much hate. The Ritual is Bruckners best film. Just a solid creature feature. Bruckner also had his hand in a bunch of VHS movies which I don't exactly blame him for being pretty crap. I think anyone that attempts to hobble together a bunch of film festival horrors into a cohesive story will have trouble with it.

The way to make a Faces Of Death Movie in 2024 is to make every death just fake as hell, like somebody gets decapitated by a pizza slicer while making a pizza & a narrator gravely intones that this is "real horror, true horror".

Forgive me if I'm wrong, it's been decades, but wasn't Faces of Death mostly staged while Traces of Death was the one where the majority of the footage was real? I remember that's how I originally saw the R. Budd Dwyer video before the internet.

never seen any of those flicks but my understanding is that Faces of Death is mostly staged, yeah, except for some stock footage animal deaths and wartime footage (including holocaust footage). there's a pretty good review of it in the context of the video nasties list here
