Cyberpunk 2.0 / Phantom Liberty are just SO good. I feel a lot of joy that they were able to fix the game and make the actual masterpiece it always should have been.

Hoping to pickup Phantom Liberty sometime later in the year when it goes on sale, then finally getting around to playing Cyberpunk

The only reason I've hesitated to get Cyberpunk is that what I've heard of the main story is really cynical and depressing and I much prefer 'the world sucks but people don't necessarily' stories about hope. If there's more of that than I thought then the game is definitely back on my list.

I had a little nagging worry that this would come out and not be what I've been needing from Fromsoft all these years. And I was a loving moron for worrying. Yeah it is definitely that style of narrative. Most of the cynicism is just window dressing, but the human connections you make in the game are wonderful.

I dunno, it is subjective but uh.....there are a lot of batshit crazy things NPCs do in that game when you solve quests....

There are some more hopeful storylines but there are also some very nihilistic ones.

I have good news for you then. World is gone poo poo in Cyberpunk, but not people. Well not all people.
The Cyberpunk RPG creator Mike Pondsmith said it best: "You can't save the world, but maybe you can save yourself."

"The world sucks but people don't necessarily" is exactly how I'd describe Cyberpunk's story. There are good people in Night City and a lot of the game is about your relationship with them.

To an extent it is. One of the core themes about Cyberpunk (Pondsmith's game, not necessarily in general) it that you're a small fry who can't make the world better. You can, and should, make a difference at a small scale - friends, family, and other loved ones. And those smaller relationships shine in CP2077.
