So I caught up on reading Zeonic's scanlations of Vanadis Heart. It's pretty interesting and has its own twist on the way Gund technology gets co-opted for less than noble uses. The main character Vilda is a former Vanadis Institute member who survived the purge. She joined up to save her brother from a medical condition but he died and then she was diagnosed with the same microfistula disease. At some point before the purge she designed a Gund powered heart and discovered that Kiyu, the boy she's traveling with, had it installed in him. However the catch is that the heart only works within an 800m range of a Gundam, presumably because it's the only thing that can process enough permet data fast enough to keep the heart operating properly. So in the latest chapter Vilda encounters Yoshika who is another child implanted with the same Gund Heart while she pilots Llfrith Anocta. A spacian company is using her and the Anocta to suppress Earthian terrorists and to also track down Vilda. Llfrith Jiu isn't actually hers and she stole it along with Kiyu from wherever she found both. So the next chapter looks like there may be a showdown coming where Yoshika tries to get Vilda and Kiyu to follow her back to her Handler. Also the Jiu may have been involved in annihilating an Earthian town in prior years. So yeah, more insidious corruption of medicine by tying their function to mobile suits and then using medical test subject children as pilots.

I'm just amused that of the three pitches the first very much was Super Robots meets Saturday morning cartoons, the second was somewhere in the middle and the third very much felt like a Gundam series pitch that someone might have done at some point. Just such a wide variety And honestly I wouldn't mind a series that brought in some Super Robot/Brave robot vibes and aliens but mixed it with Gundam style story. This may be my Bang Bravern high talking but I think it could be interesting

No mecha but it will have a lot of the multilateral intrigue you describe.

I'd say Macross (which Sunrise is doing now) is the better reference. Macross is, generally, the one with aliens, while Gundam is generally the one without aliens. And considering how bad Gundam's movie with really alien aliens was, I'm fine with not doing aliens outside of Build.

the main team, villains,a dnt eh other couple of teams all looked very distinct and went with their mannerisms pretty well, idk fafner characters i find hard to tell apart sometimes so maybe just don't give him uniforms

The MJP characters don't look any different from SEED characters in stills, but the entire tone and vibe of the series is different and they animate like, well, cartoon characters instead of being dour and serious 100% of the time. They're a lot more vibrant, distinctive, and fun in motion than SEED characters are, so Hirai's simplistic facial designs actually work pretty well there.

In other words, MJP's Hirai character designs aren't an asset (or even good), but the show's lighter, more comic tone and more adventurous animation help mitigate the damage they cause. Like, seriously, would that show actually lose anything if it had character designs from (as a random example) Mogumo, the lead character artist of Witch from Mercury?

I have 100% seen Hirai as gently caress designs in other anime and they were fine, even good. S-Cry-ed is a genuinely good looking show, and when I was stuck into Majestic Prince I barely noticed we were in Hirai-land. CE Gundam just looks bad.

I absolutely can't imagine looking at other Hirai stuff except maybe Scryed (where his art still was still developing) and going "oh no, it was only SEED that was the problem." His stuff looked like poo poo in Heroic Age, it looked like poo poo in Fafnir, his stuff looked like poo poo in Majestic Prince, it looks like poo poo everywhere.
