Presumably, she was the one keeping people from strangling him.

Not a lot of nutritional value in leather, but if you can chew it fine enough it'll fill your stomach at least.

To be fair, the radar has no Dexterity stat and Chilchuck would probably have an easy 5 in that, while all other party members would be like 1-3.

I never read the manga but this episode made me "get" what the series is going for, using food as a vehicle to explore topics like ecology and politics, and it's really interesting.

Yeah the whole "using food as a vehicle for worldbuilding" thing is absolutely a recurring narrative device in Dungeon Meshi. It was always really interesting in the manga, so I'm excited to see how well it translates to animation.

It's an RPG setting where death just means your friends have to pay some priest back at town to revive you. Unless you get fully digested and there's nothing to cast the spell on, which is where the whole thing with rescuing Laios's sister comes from. They don't expect her to somehow magically be alive in the dragon's stomach, they just want to retrieve her corpse before it's too late to resurrect her.

In the manga atleast it's also mentioned you see a bunch of outlaws/thieves/bandits at the lower levels I'm pretty sure so you can assume a good amount of those people at the least were just hiding from the law. But also revival is a thing
|
# ? Jan 25, 2024 20:16 |
|
Revival is a thing any halfway decent mage can cast, Marcille offered to raise the corpse they found on level 2 for example, but Laios didn't want to take the time in case it didn't work.
|
# ? Jan 25, 2024 20:23 |

Revival is a thing that can specifically happen within dungeons, because for some reason the souls of people who die in the dungeon just sorta stay there for a while and can be re-binded to their body provided it's mostly intact (this is why they're rushing to get to Farlin before the dragon's metabolism runs its course). Greenhouse effect but re: the immortality of the soul, basically. Or Spelunky rules, basically.

I'm sure only manga readers would possibly give a poo poo, and I don't know if it's an early instalment thing or just a dub thing or what, but the Orc chief keeps distinguishing elves from humans and just generally using the word human wrong in this episode and it's driving me crazy. You're all human in this setting!

It's like that in the manga too so it might just be an early installment thing, but the precise definition of human is a cultural thing in universe so it could just be orcs don't consider elves the same as humans

Popo posted:"Res spell this! Criminal that!" They got what they had coming for being rude to Marcille. She was so proud of the veg! I find it a little bullshit that Senshi dismisses lighting a fire with magic as "the easy way" as opposed to a flint and steel. Fucker, you have no frame of reference for how hard or easy it is to do that with magic. It's not like Marcille busts out a Zippo lighter, it's a goddamn magic spell, people have to study to be able to acquire that skill, a skill you do not have and that seems pretty drat specialized. If it's so easy, how come everyone doesn't do it that way?

Bet the real issue is just Senshi's firm belief that "proper flint and steel just imparts more flavor", it's a propane vs. charcoal thing
