The spreads are usually "undefendable" via a roll, but if NG decides to not dump it's butt off tomorrow, I'm going to roll them but change the long calls to a higher strike. Consumes BP, but at a very slow clip. Could do that for a long time.

lmao. As promised, here are my moves. It was pumping a bunch and I have a short day.

The short calls were rolled, same strike. Too ITM to roll up, could only do out.

The 110/115s were closed for six cents each.

The 95/100s were moved to 95/103s for next week. I also considered moving to a 100/107 but it consumed more BP and this poo poo can just as easily dump to the 80s next week.

Same. I had a fair bit of stuff that I'd done OK on but was kinda underperforming, and closed all that to dump into Nvidia.

Still staying in fat drugs and luxury goods though. That stuff has been very good to me.

Is Nvidia just a meme play at this point?

Apple had >10x the revenue and >20x the profits as Nvidia last year, so Nvidia would need some pretty insane valuation multiples to catch up to Apple in market cap

NVDA has twice the Price:Earnings of APPL though. Apple has a lot of cash.

what I'm saying is market doesn't really give too much of a poo poo about fundamentals.

Exactly

It does seem to be specifically the mega-cap tech companies though. INTC for example just had a nasty earnings report with >10% drop in one day, and several other smaller/mid companies that might be AI adjacent have been more modest in their gains than the big players. Something about the AI hype bubble combined with the too big to fail perceived safety of the non-TSLA Magnificent 7 mega-caps is translating into seemingly unstoppable growth.

Probably the growth is long term unsustainable, but you'd very likely lose your shirt trying to short this hype currently.

I ended up fully hedging and legging my 90C into a super wide spread to buy back BP and let me sleep soundly. Also, with NG nearing $2, I decided to get fully tits deep into the trade.

meta's R&D spend has been basically flat for a year:
https://www.macrotrends.net/stocks/charts/META/meta-platforms/income-statement?freq=Q

zuck has been saying they're gonna get like 350,000 H100's by end of '24 and tons of other supporting stuff too. how does meta's R&D expenditures line not explode and kill their margins?

their margins have inflected up recently:
https://www.macrotrends.net/stocks/charts/META/meta-platforms/profit-margins

seems like a reversal of that would be viewed not so well by wall st until their AI profits started rolling in?

yeah idk maybe? suppose I should read their prior earnings call before they report this week

in other news, I had been getting spammed recently with invoices from a big S&P 500 company. some dumb case where they were not validating email addresses before associating them with a bill.

could not find any good contact info to make it stop other than a phone line (and gently caress that), and some dumb generic web contact form. the sender was a do-not-reply address.

so I mailed the company's investor relations. this is the second time I've gotten investor relations to take care of a fuckup from elsewhere in the company not validating emails before sending customer stuff. the other time was a big company sending me people's test results from a doctor :stare:

HIPAA is a joke. Mostly just a ritual to certify that your company pretends to care about healthcare privacy. Look we have a privacy officer and written procedures and make all our employees do a computer based training on HIPAA every year. Boxes checked, done.

And I'm sure all relevant protections against data sharing is waived by virtue of receiving services. All vendors negate your rights but you have the choice to simply not receive medical care.

You can pursue someone legally for damages, but the burden is on you to take on a giant corporation with more money than you. There's no HIPAA avenger out there to help you.

Unless you want to hope a rich angry person sues them, and a group settlement nets everyone a nice $5. Maybe.

Hadlock

I was on a team attached to data privacy for medical records. We had to do thorough audits annually and it definitely factored into how we designed our data systems. HIPAA defines PHI (personal health info) and at least on the data nerd side of things we took it seriously. If HIPAA didn't exist your test results would probably be on a nosql database open to the internet with the password disabled so that developers could work on it more easily. It's pretty much the only thing keeping medical records even a quarter secure

Girbot

HIPAA is also taken seriously by EMS for radio communications (and everything else obviously) because there absolutely are weirdos out there that will listen on their home radio labs and journal their community's EMS chatter.

I feel like psychedelic therapies are on the verge of a breakout, but I’m not sure where I can invest to support that.

J&J is the only public company I’ve seen with a ketamine drug that’s been approved, but their overall outlook seems pretty meh? And I don’t want to tie myself into the larger portfolio just for one drug.

I was thinking maybe the therapeutic space associated with administering psychedelic therapy, but those are probably all private . . .

loving PE, I need someone to get me in

Leperflesh
May 17, 2007

Ketamine clinics have popped up everywhere, with nurses and doctors at the clinic signing off on prescriptions not that different than how you can get viagra with a phone visit with a doctor whose entire job is prescribing boner pills, or how you can get medical marijuana in any state that only allows medical marijuana by visiting a clinic and mentioning you sometimes feel anxious. The result is that yes J&J is selling shitloads of the ketamine drug, but I don't think there's a way to invest in this proliferation of clinics because there's different rules in every state, not much in the way of a clear front-runner company, most of them are private, and there's absolutely zero moat.

You can tell ours is a low-end mall because it has ads for dental reconstruction / "full jaw replacement" surgery instead of Ozempic. $14,990, financing available!

I just realized that since most insurance plans have decided on "lmao lol gently caress no" when it comes to paying for ozempic, there's a whole untapped market for predatory GLP-1 financing.

If you can finance a car at 30% interest why not finance 2 years of ozempic?

I'd bet that the ad isn't actually from Novo Nordisk (who are still running at absolute max capacity and experiencing shortages many of doses of Wegovy & Ozempic), but from a some local clinic.

Getting a patient on a GLP-1 treatment means big money for local providers, as you get to order a bunch of tests, bill their insurance for a higher-tier of visit, and will have to see the patient on a much more frequent basis as you monitor their progress.
