Other than pets being OP I feel like that stuff is still pretty vestigial. I mean ToME has the item vault that lets you leave equipment for future characters, that still counts.

I do know what you mean, I have like 40 hours in it and have beaten it once and in theory I really like it - I think what I like in a game like this is having a variety of interesting options/buttons on any given turn, and it definitely does that - but there's something lacking. I've seen lots of people say this and nobody can define what it is but it's absolutely true

First ever win. RPGLike mode. Adventurer (medium) difficulty. Cogmind is a classic roguelike but it plays very differently than yr ADOMs and Crawls. I love this game but man it's hard as nails if you don't understand its systems. It took me a long time to rewire my brain for it. I went for a jack-of-all-trades build, blowing a lot of things up but managing the danger level with hacks.

forgot that if you use Freedan he just transforms back into Will as soon as you beat the vampires so uh source: just trust me bro. also it only took me three tries so maybe the plat should've been all jewels but w/e, just glad i only had to use one herb

It's just classic or infinite lives right? Should be mostly classic imo, most of the ToME ones other than the two unlock ones require one of the limited lives modes so maybe one or two of them can be freebies for the weak among us

can't imagine why they took away felids' bonus speed in this version. pretty much the only thing going for the race other than the lives which are definitely not enough. now if you fail to stealth stab anything slightly interesting you better have a sick spell in your back pocket or you're burning consumables

Sounds like classic and daily should count, roleplay and wander both feature checkpoints. Wander sounds cool though, i'll probably check that out next if I end up liking this game. :cheers:

yeah qud doesnt have limited lives it has checkpoint at settlements as the easier option. i cant recommend playing wander, combat is a large part of the game and tearing that out to just walka round would be extremely boring

I really like ToME's compromise approach in Adventurer mode. It's partially necessary because ToME is absurdly too long for a Roguelike and also because DG loves immediately murdering the player with spike damage, but it's nice to not have a lengthy run ruined because I took my eye off the ball for two turns but also not completely eliminate all tension like Qud settlement checkpoints do. Should be a standard option imo

yeah the presentation is v good on all fronts, the visual effects they use are cool as hell while (mostly) conforming to the RL tile style, altho i turn off the color change bcos if you run NV its just all green forever lol. and the tileset itself is amazing. its a rly good imagining of a "modern" roguelike w/o straying from how the genre works mechanically, imho.

i have tome but i havnt really played it much but that mode does sound cool, stalker anomaly has teh same system so presumably anomaly stole it from tome lol. ill probably give it a go at some point buti have to play permadeath... is it really much worse than losing a deep qud run?

made a minotaur berserker and got further than ever before before some red square assassin threw my rear end in the abyss (first time there. hated it) and i got chased by something called a starspawn tentacle and then when i managed to headbutt that to death the only path i could find was to go even deeper in with low hp and no healing consumables and i got zapped by some random guy

got 5 runes (snake, shoals, vaults, slime, abyss) on my stoneform octopode and cleared out Zot with only one awful mutation. should I go to pan next or gtfo lol



not one good hat and my rings could be better, but I have a plutonium triple sword in my back pocket and enough long blades to use it.

9 runes. I didn't think Lom Lobon would be that brutal. there was a pan exit on this floor too. I'd have just tried to steal the rune but I blew my last tele scroll on an escape attempt that landed me in the same room. I only had ice magic lol, I am going to make a point to get translocations on my next melee character. especially with statue form, it owns but its really easy for them to get away.

I think Ashenzari is the way to go up until it, but I definitely could have used some more panic buttons in Pan. I couldn't just break all my rings though. felt good to get this far for the first time in a long time but it sucks to lose so late too

Wow, that sucks. I was going to have a go at Felid for the plat trophy but this makes them so much worse, maybe I'll do Octopode instead.

E: I also tried Yred on another character without realising he's been reworked and it felt really bad. My plan of Felid of Yred for an easy-ish three rune victory is in shambles.

Imo ToME is harder and a full run is like 15-20 hours. If I die in Qud beyond the first few hours it's always because I've tried to do something unnecessarily risky and stupid
