The worst part of my vasectomy experience was that the surgeon's assistant in the room was a cute girl about my age and I don't think I've ever been more shriveled up in my life.

Same. I'm not the kind of guy to flirt with a woman at work, but that doc very clearly employed a specific type of woman in his office and they were all exactly my type.

There wasn't an assistant present during my surgery. Whoever initially took me back to the procedure room left me to get undressed and up on the 'table' myself. The only person in the office who saw my groin was the urologist. edit: personally I would much rather have had a gorgeous woman seeing me at my least than the urologist deciding to veer the surgery small-talk into politics

Feel like something is poking my balls sometimes while moving too. Please go away, soreness, there are weights that need lifted.

The easier you take it it in the beginning, the quicker you will heal. I went for a short hike like 5 days after and I was really feeling it. On the flip side 5 years later and still only one kid, so it worked.

It’s just my opinion but you can always foster and/or adopt if you start feeling an urge to family up after vasectomy

When the doctor flipped it over to reveal my junk, she kept staring for a couple seconds, then turned away and left, never to be seen again. I don't know what she was looking for, but I did take it personally.

Oh drat! *assistant looks at your junk* "Abso-loving-lutley NOT!" Had you already shaved? My first thought is she came in to shave and didn't need to.

So, I just got my appointment time. It's in a couple of weeks, so now is my time to weigh all pros and cons in a cup to see if I'll actually do it. Pros: No baby, no problem. Big gently caress you to the government telling me I need to have babies for capitalism. They are planning to remove it from public healthcare, so relatively soonish it'll cost about ten times more. Cons: Concern about prolonged discomfort. Everyone here seems to have had a good experience, but I've read that there is a relatively high percentage chance that you'll get some side-effects or unintended consequences. Anyone had those and willing to share about them? Another thing is that the hospital is about 40 miles from me. Will I be able to drive afterwards or should I cab it? Anyone had those and willing to share about them? The literature says its a 1% chance for side-effects or pain longer than a couple days. I'm three months out from mine and my pain has diminished to the point where I am going to try to start exercising again. I skimmed this thread after I got mine and only saw one other person who had prolonged discomfort. Anyway, you should probably still get it - I figure 8/10 pain for a month and 6/10 pain for two months is still better than my wife who has had 5/10 discomfort on her birth control for the last decade.

I had mine done 3 weeks ago. No scalpel, no clips, just removing a piece of the vas and cauterizing both ends. It was mildly uncomfortable, but nothing too bad (I’d do that again over a root canal any day). I was good by day 6 or 7 with mild pain at worst.

I drove myself home, but my experience was rather painful overall compared to most. I had awful swelling and was in pain for a few days, almost a week. I also wasn't completely numb for one of the snips, which sucked. I'd still do it all over again.

Yeah, while it turns out it's no big deal getting the snip on a varicocele testicle, it does cause significantly more "just a little pressure" lmao. ( I suspect some digging was involved, that's what it felt like) One side was normal and I didn't feel a drat thing she went to the other side and sweat immediately broke out all over my body and I imagine this is what it feels like before people faint from pain. I didn't but boy was that a unique experience. Still, outside of my attempt at a dog walk two days in leading to regret, absolutely no problems even with that extra hiccup and as mentioned earlier, easier than some dental work I've had.

I will say that I don't think I ever had blue balls in my life until I had the snip, and now I very rarely do but it's easily relieved. 5 years on and no regrets / no more kids.

I had mine about 5 months ago for the "no scalpel" procedure. I had three options going in: In clinic no Ativan, In clinic with Ativan, or in hospital with full anesthesia. I went clinic no Ativan, and the urologist was annoyed, because he prefers when patients are a little looser/relaxed because it makes it easier for him to get a hold of the vas. I work with large quantities of controlled substances and I've never experienced them myself, and I prefer to keep it that way for diversion avoidance purposes. I was still in and out in a hour, initial recovery was very reasonable, I think I was back riding a bicycle after a week to week and a half. Tested a little after three months and no swimmers. I have ended up with some post procedure pain though. It started three months after the procedure (to the day, by coincidence) and it was bad enough pain in my left testicle that I thought I was going to vomit. Quick onset, lasted hours but some APAP/Ibuprofen kept it under control. Since then it's been an intermittent dull ache or sensitivity to touch in the left testicle, but nothing like the first occurrence. It usually lasts one to three days, but sometimes it's just a little sensitivity for an hour or two. It happens about once or twice a week. I still don't regret getting the procedure, and it reassuring to read in this thread that other people who have had similar pain experiences have eventually had them subside.

About 1 week after this post I had an experience similar to what Oldsrocket_27 just described. Quick onset pain (4-5) in my left testicle, and the pain radiated upward into my abdomen. I also felt pretty nauseous. No fever or pain urinating (which can be signs of infection). After 2-3 days it hadn’t let up, so I sent my provider a message. They said it was probably a granuloma. I took some ibuprofen and iced, and the pain eventually dropped down to a 2 after a few days, and gradually resolved over the next week. Hasn’t recurred yet. Not fun but not terrible and wouldn’t have changed my decision (pretty much any non-chronic issue wouldn’t).

I have 3 kids and didn't need any more so in 2018, I went in for the ol' snip. The urologist was old-school and said it would be a scalpel. I was told that I had to have a driver and they prescribed a single Lortab pre-procedure (to be taken 1 hour before). I was told that this would be the urologist's 11-some thousandth procedure. Day of (a Friday), the urologist comes in, everything is prepped. I'm laying on my back and can't really see anything. He hits me with a local anesthetic on the right side. Stings pretty bad but then immediately makes the first incision. No wait time whatsoever. I'm not sure if I'm more shocked that he didn't wait for the numbing to kick in or that he's just going to town on my nuts. I feel a rush of blood to my head as I take in that this is happening. Strangely, the pain really isn't that bad. I just kind of breathe through it. Literally 30 seconds later, he goes around to the other side. Another needle for numbing (I guess?) and then another incision. I feel some "tugging" on the left side that is quite uncomfortable but not necessarily painful. He spends the next minute sewing the incisions with those self-dissolving stitches. I think he was in the room for 3 minutes total. As he leaves, he says I can sit up but just wait for 15 minutes. I look down and, yep, procedure complete. I'm surprisingly not in a lot of pain. Post-op, I was black and blue for a few days and only took 3 Lortab out of the 10 they gave me. I was back to work on Monday but I was on my feet all day and felt pretty rough halfway through. Took the next day off but was relatively fine after that. Had mild discomfort for maybe 6 weeks total. Went back after 3 months for the "all clear" and I was. It's been 6 years now and I've had no other complaints or issues. To this day, I pretty much believe I got it done without anesthesia. The pre-op Lortab might have been in effect but the local shot sure as poo poo didn't kick in until after he was done. I don't consider myself to be a badass at all but after hearing others' snip stories, I think I had it worse than most and I can't say it was all that bad. Despite the procedure being...not what I expected...I'm quite happy with the results.

The only downside is that my urologist promised me that there would be jokes. There weren't any jokes, but his assistant kept talking about trying to grow their family. When he finished up I asked him for a "Plastic's closure" (one that is aesthetically pleasing.) He shrugged and threw a stitch.
