Yeah it creates multiple thresholds with real benefits to being above them so it makes most teams outside of the total doldrums with real things to play for. Also the play in games (that don't feature the Hornets) are generally pretty cool. No brainer, play in owns.

jaylen brown never gets that many free throws anyway tho. he doesn’t get contact looking for free throws, he just bulldozes his way to his spot to try to actually shoot it and sometimes gets fouled on the way

Seems super plausible to me but wasn't part of what was proven, just what Donaghy was claiming.
