If there was a place around here that did döner kebab I'm pretty sure I would single handedly keep them in business. That stuff just does not exist here in the US, not enough Turkish diaspora made it to these shores I guess.

Nothing gets on the floor unless the Speaker wants it to. The only way around that is a discharge petition, which needs a full majority. Democrats aren't going with a Republican discharge version, because it's bad. Republicans aren't going with the Democratic discharge version, because they're Republicans, and they'd need more Republicans than they can get because of said progressive opposition. This is all why McConnell just keeps saying the Speaker should put the bill on the floor. It would pass, easily. But Johnson would probably get kicked out (unless Democrats save him) and so he's digging around for weird work-arounds, like the stupid forgiveable loan idea, or trying to pass Israel funding alone, or simply doing nothing. Also, the house is now leaving for two weeks, so there's that too.

To some extent that was bullshit, but that's REALLY bullshit now. It's campaign season, Republicans ain't got poo poo for money, and they don't really care about in-district service. Nowadays, it's just lazy AND strategic. The last few house vacations have both - forcing hardliners to pass poo poo or postpone their vacations, forcing the Senate to accept the house package because nobody would be around to renegotiate (ensuring a shutdown). There's a Democrat threatening to hold poo poo up in the Senate because of Ukraine, but likely can't because well, house would be gone. Also, you'd need vacations and a lot of money to put up with house GOP members on a daily basis. Their recent GOP-only retreat only had like half of the conference in attendance because they can't stand each other.
