Yeah I'm letting them play as much as possible nowadays because noa(black lab) is 7 and gus is 2, so they're going to age out of playing range within a few years unfortunately.

the secondary audition episodes in sound! euphonium (10 and 11 in case that's not specific enough) are so freaking good. everyone is so stressed out and the camera work is a crazy mix of weird rear end dutch angles and jump cuts (honestly jump scares at points) intermixed with people reflecting on their relationships while the sun sets. i also really dig how little of reina and kaori's perspective we get even though the central conflict is ostensibly their trumpet showdown. it's really just 40 minutes of kumiko, yuko, and a few other characters examining their own personal motivations re: concert band club through the lens of their experiences with reina and kaori. https://i.imgur.com/pRFmUIC.mp4 https://i.imgur.com/c9CDTX8.mp4

i feel like posting more, because the editing is so good in these two episodes. sorry for lots of pictures. i really like the perspective tricks they use to make yuko taller as she gets more confrontational over the course of the two episodes, up until her confrontation with reina in that last gif. the probably self-aware shot where they abandon the framing tricks and you can see she's standing on her toes is so good     https://i.imgur.com/K41adf9.mp4

I'm reading City of Saints and Madmen, of the Ambergris Trilogy by Jeff Vandemeer It's good. Not quite catching me like Borne, Dead Astronauts, and Veniss Underground did but that's ok I also am only like 90 pages in so

I saw y'all (I'm sorry, I forget who - Endorph and ohtori akio? maybe??) talking about Run Away With Me Girl and put it on my reading list and decided to try the first chapter earlier tonight and I just couldn't stop reading it. So now I'm mopping up my tears and going to bed quite late. It was really lovely, if fuckin heart wrenching at times, and the way the final chapter was framed was really excellent. Even after a happy ending life goes on and things can be complicated. Thanks for the rec.

IMO the first book is the most interesting in terms of setting up the world through the different stories, and the latter two are expansions of certain aspects of the first. Not what I was expecting going in, but I really enjoyed them.
