How many pitchers have ever had a serious shoulder surgery and come back to pitch effectively for even like 3+ years afterward? I think I remember hearing Tanaka did, but I can't find anything about shoulder surgery for him, just that he had Shoulder Soreness issues once upon a time Eric the Mauve fucked around with this message at 12:51 on Apr 14, 2024 |

Apparently his velo was noticeably down, so if so, full marks to him for selling it all the way by pitching batting practice to the Cubs. howe_sam posted:Roger Clemens pitched almost his entire MLB career with a surgically repaired shoulder, but he's practically the exception that proves the rule. Orel Hershiser came back from major rotator cuff surgery that wiped out a full season and pitched almost another decade. He was nowhere near the pitcher he had been but it was still an impressive comeback from what is normally a career ending surgery. But we're going back 30+ years here, which kind of illustrates how scary shoulder injuries are, way more so than elbow injuries.

You can tell that the thing they're drilling into Morel about his 3B throws is to come over the top instead of throwing a side-arm sinker, because now when he throws to 1B he cocks his throwing arm straight up to the sky before following through. The sad thing is that the guy he should replace in the rotation right now is probably Hendricks.
