Well thanks for discussing all these survival shows - started Outlast and am almost done with it, pretty drat entertaining. Tried a couple episodes of Alone Frozen, but it's the group dynamics that really make it interesting. And when they start sabotaging other teams... wild and terrible and great. Guess I'll check out Naked and Afraid next. The only slightly similar show I had seen before is Bloody Game/Game of Blood, specifically the second season - went on a big South Korean game show kick like half a year ago and binged a bunch that were (fan)subtitled. https://twitter.com/SquadBaechu/status/1644768178327924736

I love the Grey. Liam Neeson fighting Satan wolves and it's a while little bit about purgatory

Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, on Netflix, dares to ask the question: did Ted Bundy really do it? I won't give it away, but the evidence seems damning. I liked the footage of him at the end; there were parts of the movie that were a little unbelievable, but it showed you that nope, he really said/did that. I was surprised they used real crime scene photos at a few points, and brutal ones at that. Zac Efron is like a real live actor, he was great.

I love Dear Zachary (how could I not, gently caress I even downloaded the book his dad??? wrote but I still haven't worked up the strength to read it) but recommending it to people is a confirmed form of psychological torture outlawed by the Geneva conventions and I'm afraid I gotta place you under arrest homie. Working through the Die Hard films slowly. The original is what it was - an iconic actioner, albeit incredibly 80s, with lots of feathered hair and Maclain as a grizzled, seen everything NYC cop because every NYC cop was like that in 80s films. Die Hard 2 though? Is not a good film. Maclain becomes the Poochie of the Die Hard universe, with everyone saying You're John Maclain / What is John Maclain doing here/ Where is John Maclain. Maclain just tries to take over local operations, side characters immediately recognize that he's the hero and respect / help him, authority figures snarl at him before respecting him. And the rear end in a top hat journalist gets humiliated again for reasons. Of course it's a Rennie Harlin film, the Michael Bay of the day.

Die Hard 3 is much better. It’s rough but fun. And honestly the only good sequel. I wish the extended or deleted ending was put back in. It’s wild. I won’t post it now but when you watch 3, definitely check it out

Die Hard 2 has my favorite clunker line delivered like it’s completely badass: “Hey Lorenzo, let me ask you something: what sets off a metal detector first? The lead in your rear end or the poo poo in your brains?” Why would poo poo set off a metal detector?
|
# ? Apr 29, 2024 14:13 |

Maybe his poo poo is lead because it came from his rear end.

Brocktoon posted:Die Hard 2 has my favorite clunker line delivered like it’s completely badass: Argh. Yes. So much of the dialog has that clunky quality. And Maclain is now basically a superhero who doesn't think twice before doing something stupidly dangerous. I see the script writer was also responsible for the most recent Die Hard installment, which isn't promising.

I actually don't think it's as bad as all that, but the step down from "one of the best action movies of all time" to "a good late 80s actioner" is huge.

Of course as I grew up I realized we were all stupid.

Die Hard With a Vengeance and Terminator 2 are probably two of the best 90s action movies, maybe Speed is in there. The Matrix doesn't count, and I won't come up with a reason why e Home Alone is the best Christmas movie in the Die Hard series Inspector Hound fucked around with this message at 04:55 on Apr 30, 2024 |

Maybe because the matrix is the blueprint for the 2000s aesthetic idk. Lots of 90s vibes were actually us misremembering stuff from the late 80d

I'd add Face/Off too. Golden gun toting Nic Cage in his priest disguise kicked rear end, and that's just the beginning of the movie.
