Why is the devil ray riding a skateboard?

I was thinking it had something to do with rays being related to skates. It could also have nothing to do with fish species and they just thought a devil ray on a skateboard would be cool.

Even if Sluggerfido is a standard AAA to MLB washout, he will still out perform Abreu in the process so this can't possibly bite us in the rear end.

The reasoning the Rays gave for the skateboard is pretty lame “Skateboarding and Baseball are both very hard!” But who cares they look amazing.

Strange play in the Rays @ Brewers game. Rays up 1-0 bottom of the 9th, 1 out and men on 2nd and 3rd. Brewers hitter strikes out swinging at a ball in the dirt that gets past the catcher but on his swing follow thru hits the top of the catchers head. Ump calls the play dead and sends the runner who scored back to 3rd and calls the batter out. Game ends next hitter on a strikeout.

Seems reasonable tbh
|
![]() |
Brewers broadcast was arguing the batter should have been allowed to run to 1st on the dropped 3rd strike even if the runner is sent back to 3rd.

Why would you be allowed to run to first after interfering with the catcher on your backswing Like you just drilled the catcher in the head with your bat, now he's obligated to throw you out?
|
![]() |
The ball had gotten past the catcher by the time the bat hit the catcher so it wasn't really interfering. I get that it should still be called a strike but since it was a dropped 3rd I would think the catcher still needs to throw him out at 1st.

It's not interfering with the catch but it's interfering with his ability to go after the ball

Finally saw a pitcher dinged for too many pickoffs. I just thought the targeted runner would be awarded a base, not given as a balk like it actually is

Popete posted:This is the offical rule. It's called a strike since he swung and missed (strike three, in this case) and the ball is dead. When strike three hits the dirt the batter becomes a runner, but the rule specifies no runner may advance which in this case includes him. As a technicality he's not out on interference, it's just a strikeout. But either way, the moment his bat contacts the catcher he's out and can't try to go to first. If it were strike one or strike two he would not be out on interference and the at-bat would continue--that's what the rule you quoted is specifying. The Cubs stand alone atop the NL Central standings and, IMO, this should be how it remains for the rest of the season.
