I’ve been volunteering a lot with helping/ coaching little league this year and kids (who like baseball ) seems totally disconnected from MLB. They don’t really know who the stars are or what teams are good. I’d be worried if I were mlb.

Yeah the lack of access to games is a huge contributor I think, also that the MLB.tv app is frankly dogshit on every platform and probably too clunky for kids who're used to much slicker apps to bother dealing with. And FWIW this is not an angry old man "kids these days" observation, I loving hate the MLB app too I'm just conditioned to put up with that bullshit.

I remember a time where WWE and MLB pretty much had the whole 'streaming service' idea on total lock and they basically enshittified their own apps. It's crazy. Blackout rules make MLB streaming services loving awful and counter-productive. Why would I go for a streaming service where I literally cannot watch games for the team I am most likely to support? And for some people, the blackouts cover an insane number of games (here's looking at you, Iowa). If I could pay, I don't know, say 5-10 bucks a month to have unlimited streaming for one teams games, I'd be tempted. As a Jay's fan, my best option right now is Sportsnet+, which costs $15/month, and yet there are still blackout rules when there's a conflict with Apple+ exclusive games. Thank god for living outside the US for my NFL watching needs, since I can actually use DAZN to get every single NFL game, including preseason and playoffs, as well as Redzone (plus a host of other NFL network stuff I never watch). My favorite aspect of the MLB.tv player is that you're not allowed to skip ads even when watching past broadcasts, and it accomplishes this by completely taking away video controls until the ad roll is complete. There's also no preview window while seeking, so if you're trying to seek to a specific play or moment and accidentally click into a time where ads are playing, your only options to keep trying to find that play are to wait for the ad roll to finish so the video controls come back or reload the entire page and try again. UI/UX design is my passion.

I suffer through the same three ads that play at double the volume to watch the Cubs. I'd watch Ms too but they're black out restricted for dumb reasons. The at bat app in particular went poo poo the last UI update they did.
