the lap cat prophecy has been fulfilled i know she's only using me for warmth but it's really cute so I'll allow it. people have tried to suggest to me that it's her feeling more comfortable without the matting and therefore being friendlier but she doesn't usually have matting when she has her fur (I've only had to do this twice in nearly 9 years) and she is never like this

Having the vet give your cat a lion cut is a double whammy of misidentification. The resulting cat doesn't look right or smell right and it'll take a while for other cats to be comfortable around the victim.

In this case it's gone better than last time which I credit entirely to it being a home visit vet rather than normal vet. Last time she was gone all day and came home smelling wrong and Pepper 100% acted like there was a strange cat in the house. This time she was home the whole time and Pepper was only worried when she could directly see her, she wasn't acting like she could smell something wrong in the house and she wasn't quite as worried even when she could see her. It is pretty interesting to think about though given that her face and her tail are the same and she sounds and smells the same, but apparently that's still not enough for immediate recognition.

Long-haired tuxedo in my apartment parking lot. I've seen them around before hanging out with some kids and assumed it was theirs. But it let me get close this time, and it's got super-matted fur and pretty nasty ears. Poor dear   Kinda starting to wonder if Anna would like a friend...
