gently caress https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1U8KsQPIrY0 So I think even the most sceptical and cynical of goons can agree there is alot of potential here. Watch Dogs is a Gibsonesque contemprary open world cyberpunk thing that Ubisoft announced at their E3 2012 press conference less than an hour ago. It looks beautiful and stylish: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FcMRkyoHKeA It has a website: http://watchdogs.ubi.com/watchdogsgame/en-GB/home/ and scanning a secret QR code in the trailer leads you to this: https://dotconnexion.ubi.com/ It has suposedly been in development for the last two years, and platforms have not been announced. It was played at e3 with this controller: And was apparently demoed on PC. The graphics and animation " Ubisoft's press site has filed platform listings for Watch Dogs: PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC." And that is about all we know! I fully expect there to be a duplicate thread(s) by the time I finish writing this. So how cynical and e3 weary are goons? Who else is in love with this game? fake edit: HARDCORE PORNOGRAPHY Real edit: added the pre-gameplay hype trailer to put you IN THE WORLD! Take it with a grain of salt but a French gaming magazine is reporting that Ubisoft confirmed that the game was running on a PC and was for 360 & PS3.

There's no way this is a next gen title. It's plainly obvious that the title's running on Anvil. The textures look right out of Assassin's Creed. Besides, no one is going to be showing off next gen games yet. There's no point in doing so.

Really, it's just the nice rain shaders and depth of field effects, which aren't happening on current consoles. But, yeah. This was a PC demo, and you can do that on PC.

That said, this has nothing to do with this game because who's to say that anvil's running under the hood? If you feel that the animation looks like something from Assassin's Creed, keep in mind that the Montreal studio uses a bunch of different engines, but they do share the same people and knowledge.

Going to say, if the OP is going to namedrop the Gibson, going back to Neuromancer and that series wouldn't hurt, but I would highly recommend people check out his more contemporary series beginning with Pattern Recognition, then Spook Country and ending with Zero History. They're set in the modern day but are pretty much just an acknowledgment that we live in a science fiction world now. They're not as action packed as what we've seen of Watch Dogs but worth a read.

This looks very slick, and very interesting - but from that gameplay video it's dangerously close to "press A to win" territory, it looks like. re: Gibson - I highly recommend Pattern Recognition.

Fair enough, but it still doesn't look like a next-gen title to me. Nothing besides the draw distance and shader effects looks beyond PS3/360. That can be toned down from the PC demo, of course.

Yeah textures aren't anything special and the models/animations aren't either. That said, this looks cool as hell but living in Chicago I might be a little weirded out shooting people in buildings/streets that are ridiculously well-modeled after actual places I walk on a day to day basis.

It's more subtle, but the animation was very slick and well blended in ways that are very hard to do in this gen. I also spotted some physX type stuff going on not just with the Protagonists coat, but with NPC's scarves and clothes, which is cool. But yeah, this is all current gen PC stuff that can be scaled back or removed for the console versions. I think I might have jumped the next gen gun in the OP, edited! I got strong unreal vibes from the engine because it reminded me alot of the Samaritan demo, but I think that's largely aesthetic, and I guess it does make sense for Ubi to use an in house engine. We've just not seen it do this stuff before! edit: I kinda regret making this thread now, because I know it's going to take off like a rocket and I have to go to sleep! vv

So what was up with that weird not-multiplayer thing at the end of the trailer? It zoomed out from what appeared to be single player stuff and showed a guy with a username over his head, and then he got a group objective. Does that mean that we could be playing single player and multiplayer at the same time?

Ohtsam posted:Especially the facial animations Seems like it's a running theme from Ubisoft this year, eh? Looks like they might have made themselves some shiny new toys in the facial animation department, lately. So, we've yet to see a next-gen game up until possibly now. How exactly does one know that what they've spotted is a legitimate next-gen hardware game? After all, realism versus computing power is a game of diminishing returns. There's a lot of complex things happening in real-time in that demo that isn't necessarily obvious at first, and have yet to really be seen on current-gen hardware.

I would like to start a formal petition that everyone speak out the underscore when naming the game. Because enough people saying "Watch underscore Dogs" out loud in real life will cause a kind of resonance pattern that will eventually convince Ubisoft to stop subscribing to the "replace E with 3 in third installment sequels" mindset.

This game seriously caught my attention after initial skepticism in the gameplay video. I so hope they pull off a game with multiple solutions to scenarios, the idea of being free to affect various different things to get the result I want would be great. So long as I'm not railroaded into a single solution to get from cutscene to cutscene, this looks like a game to watch.

It looks great, has an interesting concept behind it, seems fun to play (even if you do just mash a button), and may have a cool story as well. It sounds almost too good to be true. I'm trying not to get too hyped about this. It's difficult. Very difficult.

I saw the gameplay footage and the graphics and animations were beautiful, but like every recent AAA game it seems like it's going to consist of tons of cutscenes and Press Button to Kill Dude. Hopefully I'll be proven wrong and it'll be a sleek action/adventure open world game instead of another interactive movie.

Noire.

While it looks pretty drat cool, the whole thing looked overly scripted. I remember watching previous gameplay videos of other games, getting excited, then being brought down a notch once I realized that what was shown is different than what I got. (Oblivion, I'm looking at you) I hope the final product is similar to what is shown.
