Hi! Hello! I'm very excited to welcome you to my Let's Play of Life is Strange! Life is strange is an adventure game with a strongly choice-based story developed by DontnoD Entertainment and published by Square Enix. Dontnod is a French game studio who also made the very stylish but rather poorly received Remember Me. In LiS, we live a week in the life of Max Caulfield, an 18 year old girl who has just entered her senior year at a college prep school called Blackwell Academy. I won't spoil any more details of the story in this post, you'll have to watch the videos! By the way! If you're looking for more THRILLING CHOICE-BASED ADVENTURE, please check out my buddy Kaubocks' sweet rear end Tales from the Borderlands thread!! It's great and so is he!! About Decision Making: Most of the time when we come to a large decision, I will be putting a poll in the thread for you, the viewer, to vote on! Polls will be posted with new episodes on Monday and will close on Friday of the same week. There are a lot (A LOT) of smaller decisions in the game, so many it would be very difficult to poll the thread for every last one, so I'll be making the small decisions on the fly. This includes dialogue and some choices that I already know the best outcome for (i.e. the best schedule for watering our plant). HOWEVER, it is pretty easy for me to go back and catch a video if there's any small choice you'd personally like to see the outcome of, so let me know! Thread rules!!! 1. Please NO SPOILERS!!!! None!! Not even behind the fun black bars!! 2. Feel free to speculate as hecka much as you want but don't call someone out if they speculate correctly cause that ruins the fun 3. I ain't wanna see no arguments about character's sexual orientations. It's weird I even have to add this but it's an argument that seems to explode outta control with any discussion of LiS, please don't?? I love you thread I believe in you. Through the events of the game, Max keeps a rather detailed journal of her adventures! It's really cool and gives a lot of insight into her character, so I'll be screenshotting the pages and putting them here! Episode 1 - Monday's Entries Episode 2 - Tuesday's Entries Episode 3 - Wednesday's Entries Episode 4 - Thursday's Entries Alternate Timeline Primary Timeline Episode 5 - Friday's Entries After Destroying the Contest Photo In the Broken Reality Max also writes entries about each character in the game! This is much easier for me to post than writing an individual bio for every person we interact with so thank god for this. Max Caulfield Victoria Chase Kate Marsh Mark Jefferson Nathan Prescott David Madsen Principal Wells Chloe Price Rachel Amber Warren Graham Joyce Price Frank Bowers This game has a really excellent soundtrack! DontnoD's choice of songs for pivotal moments really nails both the emotion of the scenes as well as telling a story with the lyrics. I'll be throwing some links to the tracks on youtube here so you can enjoy them outside of the game! Video 1-1: Syd Matters - To All Of You [lyrics] Video 1-4: Angus & Julia Stone - Santa Monica Dream [lyrics] "Maybe it reminds her of Rachel?" I'm really excited! I've been waiting for all of life is strange to come out to finally look at an lp of it and this comes at a good time. It's gonna be weird watching you lp something sober.

I'm glad you did decide to LP LiS. I like to play episodic games all at once, so everything is pretty fresh in my mind. Good luck!

This game really nails the pretentious teen thing, so I can never fault it for that. I enjoyed it a lot more than I was expecting, too! It's cool to see an LP of it. EDIT: and yeah, a really good sountrack! I wonder how many youtube let's plays of this game got content ID'd with all that indie music, though... Max is a great protagonist. I was never a teenager, but she strikes me as very true to that stage in life. I'm hella into story/choice-based adventure games like the Telltale model, so Life is Strange quickly caught my attention. Unfortunately I don't have the platform to play it myself (Mac user), so I settled for watching a blind run. While watching real-time discovery can be fun, it'll be nice to see Panzer do a proper LP and really get into it. I voted to REPORT NATHAN - When offered a choice to Do Thing or Not Do Thing, it's usually more interesting to Do Thing.

Report that fucker anyway.

I'm really excited to see you finally do a solo Let's Play again- especially since it's of a game I've been really interested in for a while now! So far, the game looks really great, despite some occasionally... questionable writing (like the fact that the script writers seem like they've never talked to a teenager before)- the characters all seem really interesting (especially Victoria, I feel like I'll like her a lot later on, assuming that she gets character development beyond just being a "mean rich girl", and Chloe, assuming she stops saying "hella") and the time travel mechanic is a really cool way to put a spin on these episodic-adventure games. Also, I vote that we snitch on Nathan, just on the slight chance that Nathan will actually get in trouble over it.

Let's snitch because I have a feeling it'll lead to a bad route, and you should always do bad routes first.

Report Nathan. Looking forward to the LP. I've seen streams of the game, but never the entire thing.

I vote we Report Nathan. Guns are not allowed in schools, and neither is murder.

Can't she just rewind time again, call 911 and tell them Nathan has a gun and is shooting up the school? That would bring a couple SWAT teams down on him and correctly solve the problem. But I'm guessing that won't be a choice I guess we'll have to settle for reporting Nathan.

ABS, Always Be Snitching. Also, this is a good, if flawed, game.

Nathan Prescott is a garbage person so snitch on him as hard as you can. He deserves it.

Looking forward to this since this will be the first solo LP of you that I've watched, so I'm curious as to your style outside of multi-person ones.

Yesssss. As a former teen wanky photographer, I am so goddamn psyched for someone to finally LP this. Also rat Nathan out. That boy has problems, and he won't get the help he needs if noone points that out.

SloppyDoughnuts posted:That man is too hunky to be a high school teacher. This is ruining my immersion. But I'm excited for this. This game really nails the feeling of being an ~alternative~ pretentious teen, simultaneously the victim and feeling superior to everyone else. The part where Max thinks "ugh it's like they make them in a factory...actually she's nice to me I shouldn't be so mean" was so high school me it hurt.

Life is Strange isn't the best game of 2015 but it's probably my favorite. It is, at least, the one I've dedicated the most time thinking about this year. One little inconsistency that I don't think counts as a spoiler: Max's journal entry describes Blackwell as "a private school for 12th grade seniors," but that's pretty explicitly not the case. Some of the characters have been at the school for a lot longer than three weeks, and there are at least Juniors at the school. Max probably means to say she was accepted into the Senior program or something, not that only Seniors attend the school. Like I said, minor thing, but Blackwell is a loving web of drama that couldn't exist if it only housed a year's worth of students at a time.

The game does a pretty good job at capturing what it's like to be an "alternate" teen, even if some of the dialouge is a bit cringy. I confess that the game made me buy a camera and go out to take photos. It feels a little weird when a game makes you interested in a hobby.

I liked roughly 80% of this game! Nice to see an LP now that it's all over. I hope the thread will have the same level of wild speculation that the thread in Games did during the original release.

This looks pretty interesting, horrendous dialogue aside. Gonna watch with interest. Don't tell on him, blackmail's blackmail. edit: Right, I probably shouldn't be so hard on the dialogue; I guess it's realistic? Still annoying as hell though. anilEhilated fucked around with this message at 11:17 on Nov 10, 2015 |

The biggest mystery in LiS is how a fifteen year old girl convinced everyone she's eighteen. I have strong, conflicting opinions on this game. This is either the worst best game or the best worst game. The overall story is intriguing, but some twists are less than surprising. Some characters are complicated and interesting, but the dialog is generally horrible. The puzzles and the time travel mechanic work well, but all puzzles are just an extension of "use time travel." But, despite all the flaws, the game's one of my favorite gaming experiences. This game also showed that "alternate" teens still had a better time in high school than I did.

Nathan won't be able to keep his problems covered up forever. Snitching will either help him get the help he needs, or at least some I-told-you-so points when the cat gets out of the bag.

I voted to rat out Nathan, but I've wondered for a while (having watched like 3 people play the beginning of this game but not having played it myself yet), can you just walk out and ignore the principal? I'm guessing the answer is yes, but the game treats it as if you just hadn't ratted out Nathan.

casting my vote for go back in time, take picture of Nathan holding gun, then show it to the principal

I gotta tell you, as someone who went to a private high school for a single year, we had more drama in a grade of twelve people than i ever saw when i moved to a regular public high school. Smaller groups of teens seem to distill the drama down to a finer grain. anilEhilated posted:This looks pretty interesting, horrendous dialogue aside. Gonna watch with interest. Actually, if we try to intervene in the bathroom scene, Max will refuse to leave the cover behind the stall insisting that she would get hurt. I imagine the principal would take the picture and rip it up, then pretend he never saw it. And now I'm picturing him feigning ignorance while Nathan runs around in the background, waving his gun around and yelling conspiracy theories.

Snitch What I don't understand is why we can't tell the art teacher about it, like, keep the timeline fuzzy just let him know we think we saw a gun. He seems more likely to believe us.
