Soft pretzel is top yum, imo. With dipping sauce of your choice or without sauce.
Hard pretzel is is only good when they are the bigger variety. The small twisty dudes just don't do it for me.

Honey mustard pretzel bits are fabulous.

I make pretzels, op, and to be honest they're a god damned hit every time. Give it a try

Sorry, let me make it easier

4 1/2 c AP
1 1/2 c warm water
1 packet dry active yeast
4 tbsp fat (I use olive oil :mario:)
1 tbsp sugar
2 tsp salt

10 c water
3/4 c baking soda

Mix warm water, yeast, sugar, and salt in a bowl until dissolved. Let yeast bloom, ~5 minutes. Add flour and fat and mix. Knead until shiny. Rise for 1 hour.

Set oven to 450. Get 10 c water boiling in a large pot. Add baking soda.

Separate dough into 8 parts. Shape each as such: 🥨. Drop em in the water for 30 seconds, then flip em for another 30.

Once all pretzels are boiled, put on baking sheet and bake for ~14 minutes. You can egg wash first if u have company, but they will taste delightful either way.

As for pretzel taste theory, the chewy outer skin of a pretzel in conjunction with the soft warm innards remind our basal ganglia of the joy of biting directly into a small critter. Hope this helps!
