Decided I'm not going to be posting people's goals this year, it was a lot of extra work and I don't think anyone really cared. For myself, my goal is the same as last year - 75 books. I'm starting a REAL JOB this month so this might be difficult for me. AreYouStillThere fucked around with this message at 21:39 on Feb 1, 2014 |

Seeing as my final total of books in 2013 was 52, that will be the initial number of books for 2014. I've also finished my first book for 2014. #1: Cloud Atlas - David Mitchell. Yeah, I know I started reading it at the end of last year. I finished it this year, so it counts. (Not sure if I will read any GRRM this year).

Well I managed 30 books last year but this year is shaping up to be much, much busier so I'll aim for a slightly more reasonable 25 Books in 2014. Here's my Goodreads.

I'm not in the OP but I did hit my goal of 52 books for 2013, I think I hit it on 12/26. This year I am going for 60 books but we'll see how that goes.

Downsizing to 60 this year. Schedule has really picked up and I don't think I'll be able to read as much as the last couple of years. Last year, I also found that I was avoiding longer books to keep up with my goal and I really want to avoid doing that. I'd also like to put a secondary goal of reading at least 3 non fiction books. I'll up my total if I find that I'm going too quickly. Edited to add in goodreads profile. Poutling fucked around with this message at 04:45 on Jan 2, 2014 |

I'm starting grad school in a couple of weeks, so I'm guessing my reading time is going to be limited. That said, I'm going to set a goal of 52 books; hopefully I can sneak enough time each week to finish a single book.

I just got back into reading last year after almost a decade of not reading anything beyond what was mandated by my job or education, so I'm keeping it modest at 12 books for the year. Here's my next question. I'm in the middle of a book. Does it count for this year if I started it 2013, but finished it in 2014?
|
# ? Jan 2, 2014 04:35 |

I read 54 last year, so I'll set my goal at 52 again this year. One a week seems reasonable. I'm also going to add some extra conditions this year though. Firstly, at least 20 of the 52 must be by female authors since it was only 17/54 last year. At least ten of them must be non-fiction since I only read five of those in 2013. And finally, no more than five books from any one series can count, because otherwise I'm likely to read too many Poirot books. I will be counting books that I've already started reading though, as long as I finish them this year. Here's my Goodreads for anyone who's interested in seeing my reviews or whatever.

Aiming for 26 books which will ideally include 6 non-fiction. I'm actually more concerned about the non-fiction part of that goal, which is why I'm setting it.

Three years down, three goals missed. Why set another goal? Years ago, I remember this bit going around the internet about Peanuts as written by Charles Bukowski. In the final bit, Charlie Branaski is asked why he keeps on trying when he constantly fails. His reply? “I guess someone needs to be lousy at everything. Otherwise you’d get no perspective.” I'm in for 18 books. Here's my Goodreads profile. Enjoy your perspective.

From everything I have seen, and from what I do, it is your goal. You decide what counts and what doesn't. I am personally going to have the book I am finishing up that I started last year count, because I am going by when I finish. Good luck with your goal!

I missed my 2013 goal, which was 26 books and no rereads, by quite a bit. I ended up with 17. However, I enjoyed having the some sort of target to shoot for, so I'm going for it again. A bit easier this year, I'll shoot for 24 books (2 per month, rather than one every two weeks), and rereads count, because there are quite a few things I want to revisit.

Last year I set a target for 52 and beat it handily. This year, I'm going to be conservative and up it only to 64 - I got a lot of reading done on the bus last year, which I won't be doing nearly as much of in 2014.

Well, last year my goal was 40 but I impressed myself by managing 53. I was thinking about splitting the difference and going for 47 this year, but at the same time I want to make a point of getting through a fair few of the larger volumes on my bought-but-unread pile (and there are quite a lot). As such, I think I'm going to say 40 again. Tl;dr version - my target is 40.

I'm in like Flynn. I barely made my goal last year, so I'm keep it at 52 books and try to finish it sooner. I think I might like to refine what I read this year to make it more challenging, but I'm going to have to think on how I want to play that out.
