Would you be my new best friends?

June brought us our second newcomer of the year to the poll results... kinda! Switchblade Jay White had been spoiling the hopes and dreams of wrestling fans and the aspirations of fan-favorite faces for a long time, with his first World Title win coming in 2019. But it was in June of 2022 that The Great Jase Space finally accepted the inevitable: that we were living in HIS NEW ERA! With 53% of the vote, it wasn't even close, his nearest competitor being joint GCW/AEW Champion and multiple-month and one-time Yearly winner Jon Moxley who only managed 23% for a second place finish. #3 was even further behind, with the mighty Big Kaiju Shoko Nakajima only getting 5% of the vote for a third place finish. But the result would come as no surprise for the Switchblade, who has continually told us all that he's the best and hasn't even hit his peak yet... and the scary thing, it's true! Breathe with the Switchblade!

Eligible Champions are chosen on a combination of accessibility, prestige/notoriety and by overwhelming popular request. For promotions where lengthy periods of time pass with no title defenses, promos, appearances, shows etc those champions will be dropped from the poll for that period only, then return when once again relevant - for instance, Arisa Nakajima (SEAdLINNNG), Baliyan Akki (Gatoh Move), & Switchblade Jay White (New Japan) did not defend their titles this month and are temporarily removed from the poll, and as mentioned in an earlier thread, the old G1/N1 loophole no longer exists due to space constraints. The monthly "None of the Above" option is a valid potential "winner" and has "won" the poll in the past, feel free to use this as a protest vote if you so wish.

Now onto the eligible contenders for the month just gone. Feel free to make an argument for/against any particular champion you think does/doesn't deserve the votes of other posters in this thread.

Jon Moxley (AEW & GCW Champion) - It was a very busy month for the double champion, as he successfully defended the AEW Title he was the first person to win for a second time, beating Brody King in his first defense followed by a great match against Rush to close out the month. In addition to that, he defended his GCW Title against Blake Christian as the People vs. GCW event in Nashville, before going on the next day to a non-title but still extraordinary No DQ match against El Desperado at New Japan's Music City Mayhem. Mox is fighting EVERYWHERE for EVERYONE (except WWE) and doing it at the highest level wherever he goes... this doesn't even include the dream match of Mox vs. Konosuke Takeshita we got in the middle of the month! It's a good time to be a Mox fan.

:krakken: Shoko Nakajima (Princess of Princess Champion) - In an an emotional match up, with the cheers of the crowd spurring her on for the first time in over two years, the Big Kaiju was able to defeat the White Dragon, Rika Tatsumi, in order to continue her second reign with the belt. Thanks to GEORGE W BUSHI!

Jordynne Grace (Impact Knockouts Champion) - Having ended Tasha Steelz' title reign in a match that didn't require the champion to be pinned or submitted (or any other wrestler!), Grace made things right and proved her worth as champion by defeating Steelz at Against All Odds to retain the title. She then wrapped up the month successfully defending her title at the Ric Flair's Last Match event, defeating Rachel Ellering and Deonna Purrazzo in a Triple Threat match.

:pilot:Josh Alexander (Impact World Champion) - Continuing his second Impact title reign after his first ended so quickly and ignominiously, Alexander made up for the lost time with his seventh title defense in 3 months, defeating Joe Doering and going to a non-contest in a match with Jacob Fatu at Ric Flair's Last Match event to keep the second run going.

:unlimited: Satoshi Kojima (FORMER GHC Champion) - The President of Bread Club had the bad luck to end his short GHC Title reign on the same night as the start of his home promotion's G1, bringing his considerable A-Game to a hard-hitting match against an angry, angry man who would be denied no longer.

Kenoh (GHC Champion) - After appalling treatment/booking by NOAH for both Kenoh and his Kongoh teammate/fellow champion Nakajima, the angry little man finally got to take out his endless rage against one of the old men who have continually taken away their spots and their titles and their standing in the company. Winning the GHC Title for the first time, Kenoh is determined to take out his aggressions on everybody, because the man can NEVER be happy and that's part of what makes him so great. That and some astonishingly hard kicks.

:thurman: Bianca Belair (Smackdown Women's Champion) - For most of July, Bianca's title scene was tied up in matches against..... Carmella? Really? Okay I guess. Yeah she was having.... she lost by COUNTOUT? What the gently caress? Nevermind. She ended the month on a higher note, defeating old rival Becky Lynch to once again make it clear that her embarrassing Smackdown title loss to Becky in 2021 was always an aberration for the EST.

:skeltal: Thunder Rosa (AEW Women's Champion) - After losing a non-title match at TJPW's Summer Sun Princess event in Tokyo, Rosa made good on her promise and gave unbelievably cool badass Miyu Yamashita a title-shot in America. That came at Fight for the Fallen, where Yamashita had her second ever AEW match and first ever singles match attempting to replace the Princess of Princess Championship she'd lost with the AEW Women's Champion. The match wasn't as good as their first, and Yamashita did not manage to repeat the shock victory, but it gave many their first look at the world's coolest woman, while Thunder Rosa got to add another name to her impressive list of conquests.

:viconia: Jake Lee (FORMER Triple Crown Champion) - Even though Jake was successful in reclaiming the title he never actually lost, he was less successful in defending it, not even managing a single defense before dropping it to the man he never actually defeated to win the title in the first place, Suwama. Thanks to GEORGE W BUSHI!

Suwama (Triple Crown Champion) - With a new (or rather renewed) heel attitude and the nefarious VOODOO MURDERS behind him, Suwama was able to reclaim the championship he was forced to relinquish due to COVID-19 with more than a little help from his friends. With the championship already back in his hands, Suwama has decided he doesn't need to participate in the Oudou Tournament to determine the next challenger and withdrawn with his spot going to Voodoo Murders teammate, TARU instead. Thanks to GEORGE W BUSHI!

:baby: El Lindaman (G-REX Champion) - El Lindaman defended his G-REX championship not once, but twice in July, first defeating 60 Seconds's Tetsuya Izuchi in a fantastic match in Tokyo Dome City Hall, before travelling to Singapore for GLEAT's first overseas title defence, defeating SPW's The Statement Andruew Tang. Next up for Lindaman will be Suzuki-gun's DOUKI on August 24th. Thanks to GEORGE W BUSHI!

:cthulhu: Jonathan Gresham (FORMER ROH World Champion) - It wasn't the most auspicious end to his title reign. Gresham's surprise heel turn on Lee Moriarty to retain his ROH title, and hooking up with Tully Blanchard Enterprises in the process, ultimately seemed to go nowhere as TBE was sold to Prince Nana to reform the Embassy, while Gresham's loss in the title match was overshadowed by reports he was gone from both AEW and ROH after an angry face-to-face with Tony Khan.

:megaman: Claudio Castagnoli (ROH World Champion) - But while Gresham's departure was far from ideal, the victory of his opponent was long overdue. After starting in ROH waaay back in 2005 and getting the first of his failed title shots in 2007, having the bad luck to be one of the best wrestlers in the world at the same time Bryan Danielson and Nigel McGuinness were wrestling, Claudio FINALLY did it! Defeating Gresham, Claudio celebrated before a frenzied crowd with the world title that had been denied him for so long but that he could now finally, finally, FINALLY claim as his own.

:redflag: KAI (FORMER Open the Dream Gate Champion) - KAI's 200+ day title reign finally came to an end right at the end of July, as he went to a No-Contest against Shuji Kondo at the start of the month but couldn't hold back 27-year-old former tag specialist Yuki Yoshioka at the Ultimo Dragon 35th Anniversary Show.

:kingsley: Yuki Yoshioka (Open the Dream Gate Champion) - Yoshioka won the King of Gate final in June by defeating Kota Minoura, but lost a threeway with Minoura and Shuji Kondo at the Next Challenger Decision in late July, only to win the title six days later and then managed to defeat Minoura again the next day, ending the month at the very top of the promotion.

:thatsrad: Kazusada Higuchi (KO-D Openweight Champion) - Following Tetsuya Endo vacating the title due to injury, the title was put up for grabs in the King of DDT Tournament. Higuchi battled his way past Yukio Naya, Masahiro Takanashi, the legendary Jun Akiyama, and finally Naomi Yoshimura to more than earn that title for himself. Ending the show waving DDT's flag and pledging to be a great champion, Higuchi certainly more than looks the part and has youth on his side too... and he better hope so too, because his first defense will be against former champion Endo at Peter Pan in August!

:smugdog: Roman Reigns (WWE Champion) - After almost six weeks without a title match (and over two months before the one before that), Roman picked a doozy to end July with as he went against Brock Lesnar in a Last Man Standing match and had to literally bury Brock to finally keep him down long enough to get the 10 count and continue a title reign that has lasted so long now it's actually outlasted WWE owner Vince McMahon, who is currently retired in piss.

:hayter: Ronda Rousey (FORMER Smackdown Women's Champion) - Losing her title at Money in the Bank despite winning the match against Natalya, thanks to Liv Morgan cashing in the MITB briefcase, Rousey attempted to regain the belt only for things to end up even more muddled, causing her to snap and take it out on the new champion.

 Liv Morgan (Smackdown Women's Champion) - Successfully tricking everybody into believing she intended to wait until Wrestlemania to cash in the MITB briefcase, Liv defeated Ronda Rousey at the start and finish of the month. The second was far more controversial than the first, as the match ended in less than 5 minutes with Liv declared the winner by pinfall despite a replay showing she tapped out to Ronda's submission hold, causing Rousey to lose her goddamn mind and indicate this story isn't over yet.

:greenangel: Syuri (World of Stardom Champion) - Syuri made midsummer her own, as she spent July successfully defending her championship against first Momo Watanabe and then Tam Nakano at the Kings of MidSummer and MidSummer Champions events respectively.

:sanix: (None of the Above) - If you just "gotta go fast" to see the results, or feel none of the champions on offer are worthy of your time, then None of the Above is the option for you!

For the first time since November of 2020 (and a win in the 2020 yearly poll), Jon Moxley has made a long overdue and welcome return to winner of The Great Jase Space's Champion of the Month poll. The first ever 2-time AEW Champion only managed a second place finish the previous month thanks to an incredible June for Switchblade Jay White, but with that detestable pervert out of the mix due to the G1, blood pervert Jon Moxley had an easy victory, with his only close competition being fellow BCC Member and ROH Champion Claudio Castagnoli, with Kenoh and Roman Reigns coming a distant 3rd and 4th respectively. July was all about the AEW and GCW Champion though, who continues to blow people away with his wrestling, his promos, his astonishing work ethic and his clear devotion to the insanity that is professional wrestling. We're lucky to have him, and if he continues the pace he's currently on could this be the first of another long run of monthly wins (and potentially another annual win) for a man who was once laughably described by a bad promotion and a senile promoter as being miserable, lazy and simply not having it in his heart to make it as a pro-wrestler.
