if i understand the rules of the cage match properly, elimination + escape, isn't the smartest move to let two of your opponents leave, then beat the poo poo out of #3, leaving them KO'd in the middle of the ring and all 3 of you exit?

Pretty much, which is why escape rules are neat for tag team cage matches. Everybody can try and escape as soon as the bell rings, but they do so at the risk of leaving their teammate(s) to the wolves.
