It all started with a brilliant point of light in the sky. In the twentieth year of Sunder, in the warring provinces of Flit and Aon, it burst into being. One evening, it was there, a crimson star that outshone all the others. An omen? A warning? A message from the Gods that Flit would be victorious, or else Aon? It hung in the darkness, ominous in its silence. ... Much later, they would remember it as The Beginning. CHOICES posted:What does Humanity do with 1 Year of Time? Over the first year, the war between Flit and Aon guttered and died like a candleflame in the wind of change. Following a successful poisoning of the great Flitch River, the people of Flit rose up in opposition of their government, bolstered by the Omen in the sky. This was what the Aonite government had been counting on - until, of course, revolutionary fervour spread to their lands as well. With desperate swiftness, they fell as well, leaving both lands in disarray. The revolutionary governments immediately ceased hostilities, attempting to consolidate their shaky claims - and tentatively, to reunify the two lands long riven by ancient grievances. The Omen was an agent of change, and those who could capitalize on it would prosper. The world itself responded to its light, with ancient creatures rising from the bowels of the earth. Elsewhere, there were those who looked up at the star and saw something else. A visitor, coming from afar in a ball of light. Long dormant plans spooled back up, a fateful attempt to reach beyond this globe to greet them. CHOICES posted:

Adventurers from Flit and Aon attempt to deal with the Great Wyrm in the north. Only the scales of a great wyrm were tough enough to stand the forces that would be visited upon the proposed spacecraft plans either newfound nation had laid in efforts to investigate the source of the strange light. Of course the scales' very toughness meant getting them would be suitably hard... hence the newfound shaky alliance. Perhaps poison and ingenuity could do what might had failed before.

The revolutionaries are, in turn, ousted by a resurgence of Regime loyalists. These, in turn, are ousted by the True Revolutionaries, who are later ousted by Counter-Revolutionaries taking offense with the prior revolutionaries differences with the first revolutionaries. Soon after the Counter-Revolutionaries are ousted by Counter-Counter Revolutionaries who think maybe the old regime had a point... It's a very busy two years, you get the picture.

The collaborative efforts of adventurers from Flit and Aon to confront the Great Wyrm in the north proved both daring and successful. United by a common purpose, the working-class people of both lands began to forge tentative bonds that transcended their historical grievances. The defeat of the ancient creature became a symbol of their newfound unity, prompting leaders from both lands to cautiously explore the possibility of true reconciliation. However, simmering beneath the surface, revanchist forces on each side sought to reignite the flames of war through a series of escalating terrorist attacks. The fragile peace was tested as the specter of conflict loomed once again, threatening to unravel the progress made in the wake of the Omen's disruption. Amidst this delicate balance, the consolidated governments of Flit and Aon faced a critical decision. With the threat of terrorism and historical animosities lingering, they chose to maintain a wary distance from each other, consolidating power within their respective territories. The dream of a unified nation born from the ashes of war remained elusive, and the delicate dance of diplomacy and mistrust defined the geopolitical landscape. As efforts to reconcile the poisoned waters of the Flitch River persisted, the spacecraft prototype project rolled slowly onwards, hinting at the (eventual) possibility of humanity's escape from the terrestrial confines that had long bound them. And far above, the Omen burned on. If anything, it seemed brighter. CHOICES posted:

The murdered figure wasn't a politically important assassination target, but they were enough of a corrupt nuisance in the area that local storytellers made their tale of comeuppance a bard's barroom favorite. That's how it started, at least..

Though assassinations and plots still bubbled in the background of politics, the new governments of Flit and Aon had largely managed to keep out of eachothers’ way over the last the tumultuous years. The fact of the matter was the Omen had shaken matters up so dramatically that no one, even now, was quite sure how the dominoes would fall - and so they kept to themselves, and prepared. It didn’t hurt that monster sightings had continued to climb steadily, and so the warlike impulses of the two peoples were sated in the pursuit of demonic flesh. There was even money to be made in its commercialization - the monster rodeo, first a mercenaries’ grim game, had started to see some uptake among the (braver, or else reckless) populace. Mortality was high, but so were the profits, and there were always those who would seek the fruit of reward amid the dark forests of risk. The Omen’s presence was an expected, almost welcome one, now. Though it seemed to grow steadily brighter by scarcely discernable increments, it did not otherwise vary in hue or position in the night sky, and offered sailors a novel means of navigation. More than anything, it sparked a new passion for the great vastness of space and its mysteries. The spacecraft prototype program, born from the union of magic and primitive science, witnessed a true resurgence in focus as the fires of conflict finally began to dwindle. Although still in its rudimentary stages, the collaborative efforts to explore the possibilities beyond the crimson star gained momentum. Prototype “Risers” the size of barrels of ale rose into the night sky, powered by alchemy and guided by divination - and, for the most part, erupted far enough above the heads of bystanders that there was little cause for concern. Still, among the intellectual elite of both nations there was a feeling of progress, of being on the cusp of greatness. Privately, they thanked the Omen for its blessings. CHOICES posted:

As the world ventured into the next four years, the spacecraft program faced an unexpected and significant setback. A bottleneck was reached that limited further expansion, threatening to derail the grand experiment altogether. The once-promising prototypes consistently experienced catastrophic failures once they passed a certain speed, leading to failure after failure. The intellectual elite, once hopeful for progress, now grappled with the challenges of overcoming this setback. The disasters sparked heated debates among scholars and alchemists, leading to a collective effort to redefine the trajectory of the spacecraft program. Simultaneously, the world witnessed a remarkable cultural shift as monster rodeo continued to grow steadily in popularity. The gruesome yet exhilarating sport captured the collective imagination, becoming a widespread form of entertainment. The population found solace and distraction in the adrenaline-fueled contests, temporarily overshadowing the challenges faced by the spacecraft program. And then, all at once, a breakthrough. The hide and bones of certain rare monsters proved to be surprisingly resistant to mechanical stresses, as well as less mundane factors like extreme temperature fluctuations. Once the first protypical “Beast Riser” reached untold heights, the scientific community swivelled nearly overnight to the study of Therialchemy. The Omen changed one day. Or, rather, a change in the Omen was noted one day. Its rate of growth - or approach, astrologers were of divided mind about which - was slowing, altered from its historical steady pace over the last decade. What this meant no one could decipher, and frankly it hardly mattered given the more pressing matters of the rest of the modern world. CHOICES posted:
