DSVania: Portrait of Random New Run, 11: Go Away Amducias! Apropos of nothing, I've been contending with a dying keyboard for a while, but I finally got a replacement. Not gonna promise faster updates because but I'm still happy about it.

What does that SandSto skill do? Anything useful?

The shops won't sell anything until this point in the plot, the inn would still overcharge for the room until Strago is named. I'd assume SandSto is just the Desert Aria Dance trigger or the dragon zombie type enemy attack, so reliable damage but nothing good enough to dedicate a space on a characters menu. (e: and then I saw what Megumi does) Also, unless the randomizer shuffled it off, Flame Eater has MP = 0 death, so you could probably have just walked away and let it burn himself out. Finally, I wonder if Triangle Island has a dedicated "lol, lmao" switch for Intangir or if we just got really lucky with his replacement. And yeah, spot on re: sandstorm afaict. FeyerbrandX posted:Also, unless the randomizer shuffled it off, Flame Eater has MP = 0 death, so you could probably have just walked away and let it burn himself out. As for this, I guess it'd depend on how much MP it actually has and how often flare comes up. There's also the matter of the hazils; regen probably keeps up with their physicals, just about, but it's possible they eventually start doing something more dangerous if left alive and I've never seen it because, well, you know.

I really like your aro/ace Terra head canon. It adds some lovely weight to her WoR arc. In terms of Lores, are you just missing Grand Train at this point or were you not counting that?

I mean, unless I'm misremembering, she was kidnapped and mind-controlled by the Empire as a child; somehow I doubt teaching their mindless puppet about irrelevant things like interpersonal relations or the actual mechanics of reproduction was a high priority to them. Plus, there's the fact that she spends half the WoB as an amnesiac; that probably gets in the way too. Overall, I see her less as "a person who doesn't realize she's not into that sort of thing" and more as "a child in a woman's body."

Also a totally valid direction to take things in, and more directly supported by the text to boot! I imagine that is at least a little bit what they were actually going for, but bringing the esper stuff into it just muddies the issue unnecessarily. Frankly it's a wonder Terra is as well adjusted as she is, considering how little time she's had to develop a personality.

Cattail Prophet posted:...bringing the esper stuff into it just muddies the issue unnecessarily. The fact that, no, people haven't seen Terra under "the Esper crossbreed" just lends more weight to that viewpoint, in my eyes. (No, not even Locke; when he looks at her- or Celes, for that matter- he sees his dead girlfriend.) ...Looked at that way, that village full of orphans she winds up taking care of in the WoR is the first time in her life she's been able to just be Terra... depressing. No wonder she didn't want to leave; going to fight meant going back to the time when she was nothing more than "Maduin's daughter" to her.

DSVania: Dawn of Sorrow Rando, 01: Hunting Your Own Cultists Surprise! After a month of total thread silence, I randomly decided to start up another rando. I feel this isn't breaking promises or anything like that because this isn't for testing, it's because I saw a Youtube video and it looked interesting. Hopefully it works properly from start to finish.

Simply Simon posted:Imp is super unintuitively described - as long as it's active, you basically flip an enemy's HP and MP, so if they e.g. had 100 HP and 20 MP, you can kill them with a single 20 damage attack instead of 5. This is how you farm those iron golem things that have infinite defense and a shitton of health - they are one-hits with Imp.

DSVania: Dawn of Sorrow Rando, 03: Torching the Gardens Two "for the record" things, in chronological order. First: I didn't start this seed to publish it; sequence of events was basically "watch video" -> "that looks fun" -> "clear intro" -> "get starting gear" -> "I love this sword, I gotta show it off!" Second: I finished playing for this update within a couple hours of posting the last one; I just didn't get around to uploading until just now.

I'm pretty sure you don't need the magazines at all to get the respective souls - they just give hints, if you already know how, just go for it. Devil is extremely good with multi-hit attacks but also anything else - it just about triples your damage. Does indeed cost 10 HP a second, can't kill you tho Also I'm not a speedrunner either but you'd bet Black Panther would stay glued to my R button forever. It's so good

I think the Death fight in Sorrow is pretty tough but completely fair. You can learn how to dodge each of his attacks extremely consistently, and then it becomes a wonderfully paced dance where you can get into a greath rhythm of dodge - counter - dodge - counter, with ample windows to hurt him. Also it looks cool as hell to avoid the side-skulls by just taking a few steps left then right then left, not even looking at them. Badass Anyway, congrats!

Hello thread! I come to you at this late, late hour to bring news of a randomizer I just heard about tonight: Majora's Mask 3D Rando It has all the quality of life improvements from MM3D, but it lets Zora Link fast swim by default. And it fixes whatever was wrong with Deku Link's hopping. Also randomizer.

There's also been some pretty big updates for the Aria of Sorrow roguelike mod. It's pretty extensive (bordering on "complete overhaul" even); I'm trying it right now, and I'd have to say my favorite change so far is the Headhunter upgrade (specifically, it now applies Dawn of Sorrow soul mechanics to your red/blue souls). ...feels weird that my most reliable red souls so far have been the Skeleton and Winged Skeleton... and weirder that they're actually out-damaging my melee weapon.

DoubleNegative posted:Ship of Harkinian Randomizer, except the world is mirrored. Horizontally and vertically. Anyway, if you're playing as Malon, does that mean Link's a farmhand in those settings? Or is Malon still Malon? (Also, it only just now occurred to me that it's ironic how that kid whines about you messing with the graves while Dampe digs them up himself for a fee...) ...Z64 isn't exactly my favorite entry, but I might give this one a shot anyway sometime.

CptWedgie posted:Didn't have time to watch this before. Now that I am, though, it was quite a relief when you turned down the fanfare volume from "head-explodingly loud" to "relatively inoffensive" (around 21 minutes, for everyone else's benefit); I kept finding myself recoiling every time you picked something up. I was thinking of asking if that was just me, until you acknowledged the issue yourself. Yeah, sorry about the volume. Normally I play SOH mostly muted with youtube videos on in the background, so I forgot to set the fanfare volume to something standable when I started recording. Anyway, it's just a model replacement and Malon is still the same. Whenever I get an ocarina, I'll go back to the farm in daytime and we'll meet our doppelganger for a few seconds. Aiming to record more tonight, although there's only a small handful of locations that could have progression. So the fairy ocarina has to be basically in the like four locations available in Zora's River.

I swear every time I record stuff for this thread, I get the world's most cursed seeds. The Ship of Harkinian run is dead. It wants me to use speedrun tech to progress in the Spirit Temple, which is a requirement it's never mandated before. I have a second video recorded, but it's not very good because it's just me slowly losing hope regarding the seed until I finally call it quits and open the spoiler log. So I'll just... not post that. In a few days I'll try again. EDIT: It wants me to use bombs to activate the crystal switch in Spirit Temple child-side. It may also want me to stand in one of the extreme corners of the room and use the slingshot to just barely clip the edge of the switch. Either way, it's tech I've never had to use before and not tech I've enabled in my settings!
