"pros: no electron/webview", good thing a project started in 2022 instead decided to build an application that's pretty much all text ui work in the more sophisticated way: raw c on gtk2

oh, well, that's a rare one, but as far as my whine went that's good. honestly though i think fighting webviews for that sort of thing is kind of hopeless. ultimately what teams *logically* displays is a webpage, with embeds and plugins and whatnot you will basically either get it done on a webview or you will badly implement a fragment of a webview in a way that is largely guaranteed to ultimately be slower and buggier (and this holds true even for "real" widget toolkits, in a setting where you drift into the kind of rendering browsers do you are simply not going to find shortcuts browsers don't already take). which is not an argument for electron as such, no particular reason to marry javascript to it, or hook up every other api into a javascript lump, but for rendering this kind of thing the ship has for sure sailed.

Nobody who would use an alternative teams client wants any of that poo poo to embed. A link would be fine, if I can make it open in a certain browser profile then even better.

today I had to use the stopwatch function in the clock app, and discovered that 1) you can't resize the window while the stopwatch is working, the cursor just blinks between normal and resize mode frantically 2) you can't copy the time to the clipboard. amazing

infernal machines posted:you son of a bitch after i kinda got bored of that site (since windows xp had released and longhorn was a mess for a long time) i moved to being an admin at a different site, so i got some stuff a lot of people hadn't seen before from that too. archive.org has some stuff that i had been told to keep very secret, like very early beta builds of windows 95 (chicago) and nashville (cancelled follow-up to windows 95, "windows 96"), plus neptune, etc. although that was kinda floating around for a while and became easy to find eventually anyway it seems like some of the people i knew uploaded them there themselves, so that's kinda funny Beeftweeter fucked around with this message at 05:29 on Mar 7, 2024 |

Carthag Tuek posted:how are they getting away with all that software on there anyway there isn't much you can do with an old beta build of windows other than install it and play around. most of them have (easily worked around) timebombs too, and they usually can't use windows update. there's just not much reason for ms to go after anyone for hosting them, especially if they're 20+ years old
