CommissarMega posted:By that same dint, if I'm reading a fantasy story where the MC is named/meets Thomas Alithandriel, I get a general picture of how the world is like without having to read 500 words on how long the alliance between men and elves has been going on. Way I see it you don't get to know, you get to assume, and the assumption has everything to do with the world you live in nothing to with the world the book takes place in.

Well, if that's the case then that's a plot element, when ol' Tommy Alithandriel reveals that he's not a half-elf but a fallen angel! Bam, cool story element! Also with regard to unique elements, trying to make a story completely out of unique elements just adds to the initial confusion a reader/viewer encounters when experiencing said story. I'd say giving them something to hang their hat on, some familiar assumptions they can take for granted, does wonders for getting people immersed in the story. Lord of the Rings started with a party, Planescape: Torment started with solving your own murder mystery etc. Letting the reader feel more mentally at home allows the more fantastic elements to better seep in, if you ask me. EDIT: Then again, I have this avatar for a reason, so what the gently caress do I know? CommissarMega fucked around with this message at 18:24 on Oct 14, 2019 |

I'm mildly confused by the fact that, despite all the focus on additional dialogue options and morality meters and whatnot, there doesn't actually appear to be any real purpose to any of it yet. The only meaningful choice so far looks like it was deciding who's the Elder, and I can't imagine that scene with the guard going any differently if whatshisface was the one taking point instead. I can't even see how any of the bullshit with the inn even could affect the plot in any substantial way. Why even include poo poo like that if you don't intend on actually making it a big part of the narrative?

I suspect a lot of it is the backers having to have their OCs show up somewhere, so they get crammed into useless side plots that don't go anywhere.

Carmen is the worst designed character in the game so far. I'm glad we probably won't see her again until the obligatory "Where Are They Now?" at the end.
