Lifespan posted:From what I was reading he has good tackle skills and speed so is considered a run defense specialist. Even draft capital-agnostic, I'd still rate them that way. I think the 49ers reached big time on all three of their first picks. And while I liked the Rams getting Verse, not remotely a fan of the Fiske pick (ESPECIALLY given how much they gave up to him, they traded next year's second which pisses me off). I like Kinchens but really don't like Corum so that's kid of a wash. Cardinals and Seahawks I feel like went way closer to taking the best player available. I might be overrating the Seahawks, I loved the Byron Murhpy pick but actually have no idea who anyone else is. Cardinals obviously I just love Harrison, Benson and Reiman. Benson was the best running back in the draft so to get him after so many other ones were taken is a major score.

Oh snap, not only were the Seahawks the one NFCW team that didn't get an RB, the LB they selected is a run defender. This is awkward...

Guess I thought safety was a bigger need than the corner that gave up 4th and 30 to Bama I generally agree. I loved Seattle’s picks in the first and third round. I am “meh” to on both fourth round picks. They both seemed like reaches but also the fourth round is where it gets blurry and messy, so I’m not that upset. I do not care about the fifth round and below. These picks, across the league, have a significantly low hit rate. Even though Seattle has had some great late rounders like Sherman, Kam, and Woolen, I operate on the assumption that (outside of special teamers and RBs) none will make a final roster. Maybe there will be a pleasant surprise! Overall, good draft from Seattle

Fiske at that pick was a significant reach and the trade to get him is indefensible but that is really heartwarming and I love it. Friendship

Pretty interesting article on the Seahawks draft: https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/40064298/byron-murphy-seattle-seahawks-first-nfl-draft-pick-mike-macdonald-era TLDR is that Schneider was confident the top 6 QB prospects would be gone by #16 and they didn't see any worth the big cost to move up, so they were actively trying to trade down. They might have gotten the offer the Jags took for the #17 to the Vikings and I guess Atlanta was pushing hard but only had #43.

I wouldn't be complaining at all about the Murphy pick, he may well be the best defensive player in the entire draft and he was a steal at that spot, courtesy of the insane run on QBs, WRs and OTs. It's everything after that I'm wondering about e: I was thinking about the 49ers first pick and basically what it comes down to is that Pearsall needs to end up a better pick than McConkey. I think he has a chance to do that at least, but I'm not sure if that will happen. Play fucked around with this message at 22:37 on May 2, 2024 |

Love the Murphy pick and think he's worth more than the extra 2nd they could have gotten especially since they still got a reportedly good guard in the 3rd

In a vacuum I’d probably have preferred a trade down for the extra second and then grabbed like Q Mitchell or somebody. But this is McDonald’s first year so I think it’s important for him to have a season with the existing roster to get a feel for it. So yeah take the dude he wants to take. The Murphy comparisons to Aaron Donald are batshit insane, but Murphy does seem like he could plausibly become the kind of IDL player who consistently generates pressure and collects 6+ sacks a year.
|
# ? May 4, 2024 18:39 |

Yeah Aaron Donald is a 1 of 1 kind of player, getting even 2/3 or 3/4 of the player he was over the last decade will still be really good but let's not start that comparison before Murphy has even played a game.

That's a good deal for Jauan, gives them at least a little insurance in case something goes south with Deebo or Aiyuk. Happy for him too, since he was a 7th round pick this is the first big payday of his career.

# ? May 30, 2024 09:51 |

Jauan has had a few really big catches but his main deal is being great at blocking and I'm very happy to see his contract buttoned up. I think this also lets the team have more confidence in what their salary ceiling might be with Aiyuk, who is very unhappy with not having a new contract yet.

Apart from his excellent blocking Jauan is Mr. Third and Medium, makes so many crucial catches when the defense is focusing on others and we really need like five to seven yards. Super reliable hands and a wide catch radius. Happy for him, he earned every bit of that and probably a lot more.

Hey y'all, I'm still around and posted another offseason thread for everyone to enjoy: https://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=4062285 New NFCW thread will go up when training camp starts in a month. Somehow this offseason feels faster than usual, maybe I'm just getting at that age where everything seems to move faster now. But I'm a little surprised we're in June already and can feel that sweet camp content right around the corner.

Yes. He played QB in college, and was drafted by the cards in the fourth round, then passed to the dolphins and giants before converting to TE in 2016 and eventually playing for the Bills in 2017. He's old, he's turning 33 in July, but played 16 games last year, missing 1 with a concussion. He's good veteran depth at the position, can catch and can run a route, will not be a superstar, and is likely a one-year kinda guy. A good add IMO.
