putting a design for a martial badass next to a character voiced by and based on shakira doesn't seem like a completely fair comparison

Now post some concept art for the snake from KFP, who was voiced by Lucy Liu. if you've ever wanted to see how people try to draw a 'sexy' snake... Anyway, the point is people making mountains of poo poo about something that isn't even a molehill. Anyway, I liked both trailers for this cartoon, and it seems pretty fun. There is very little difference in the designs except in KFP the characters wore old-school poor-villager human outfits instead of modern middle class human outfits. Are you a closet furry classist? I feel like the posted concept art speaks for itself but heck no, KFP is/was great and the character design is legitimately exceptional. I'm so sad I never got a copy of the art book

I just don't bring it up because people around here get really, really defensive of suspected furry bashing or whatever. Not a huge issue or anything but when people complained of the art style earlier they were called out on bashing furries too. I don't really like the trailer not because of furries but just the art style look throws me off. I can't really nail why but it looks like all the characters are just bland and the only defining aspect of their character is their species. Different strokes for different folks and all that. Sexy gazelle Shakira is just weird though. I'm not touching that with a 10-foot pole.

It's caring about what the "furry" response to a property will be. It's entirely irrelevant, and also kind of absurd to devote that kind of energy to thinking about how to defend the sexual innocence of talking cartoon animals from .000000001% of the population. It's not "Don't be mean to furries" it's "Who loving cares?"

Yeah but I didn't say anything like that. So it kind of came out of nowhere and was a strange, disproportionate, defensive response. I just said I didn't like the style, which reminds me of furry art that I personally don't care for at all. This argument is kinda hilarious to me because it's the drat internet; I could show you photorealistic drawings of a garbanzo bean loving a lawnmower and then, what, you're suddenly never going to mow your lawn again or something?

Primates are taking over and this is all taking place before we evolved into humans.

To un-derail, I thought KFP2 was good but not as good as KFP1... Kinda curious how the third movie is gonna shake out. I did super appreciate that Amazon is practically giving away digital copies of the first movie though since I only have the DVD. The trailer looked decent but not super memorable so I think it could go either way.

KFP 2 had the real historical threat to kung fu to draw from. KFP 3 is based on a desire to sell baby panda merchandise. It's probably gonna blow. But I do love me some Kung Fu Panda, so I'm going to try and be optimistic.

KFP3 is also a Chinese co-production due to Dreamworks laying off a lot of their staff and replacing them with a Chinese studio, so the actual talent behind it is going to be different too.

How badly is Dreamworks doing anyways? IIRC, didn't Home have to be a blockbuster hit to keep the company in good standing or am I confused?

I hate to sound judgmental but Chinese animation studios tend to amazingly terrible at innovative ideas (with the notable exception of WOLF SMOKE), so I'm going with the interpretation that DreamWorks is much more interested in cozying up to the Chinese government to get guaranteed cinema screenings and making their films more cheaply with technically proficient but ultimately uninspired artists in china.

DreamWorks always seems to be struggling. So much great former Disney talent is there now, but it seems like they're always tripping over their own feet. Like they can't help the business side of things mucking everything up constantly.
