Precambrian Video Games posted:Tom Friedman writes that he's troubled by Gaza protests because they're not condeming Hamas or specific Israeli government policies (lol). The desperation is palpable. We're in month 7 of this genocide, more and more people are waking up to Israel's (and the US empire's) evils, and all they can do is bleat "But Hamas!" as 20 year olds are roughed up for sitting peacefully in a tent. Mamele is a very normal Yiddish term of endearment to mothers. I call my mom that sometimes. It doesn't really sound like "momola", but I guess that's supposed to be a pun on her first name and the proper term? I don't really get the fuss.

brugroffil posted:He tried a bipartisan right wing compromise on immigration and the Republicans blew it up It's still incredible to see all the "Oh, it was a genius play to show Republican hypocrisy" and meanwhile no normal people saw it at all and the Republicans are still just running on Joe Biden throwing the gates open shouting "Come on In!" and we need Trump to save the country. So he pissed off activists, shoved weird Democratic sycophants who were paying attention to the right, harmed immigration talk for awhile and literally received no tangible benefits. It rules.

Which is funny since anecdotally "gently caress these self-checkouts, I'm happy people are robbing them blind!" is a weirdly bipartisan issue according to highly scientific facebook comments. Just funny seeing a bunch of senior citizens saying the same things as left Twitter.

Some Guy TT posted:Back in April 2023, Fox News showed Tucker Carlson the door. At the time, I shared a few thoughts on his firing and offered my best guesses for his life after Fox News. Let’s see how I did. I remember when Fox got rid of Bill O'Reilly he did some terrible podcastl/later video stuff out of his garage and then Fox renewed his contract a bit but he never totally recovered. He'd be appearing like as a guest on Glenn Beck if that shows how far he fell. For how much bigger Carlson and the amount of power and voice he had when Fox got rid of him I really expected him to not be as effected. And like you I had also overestimated how much Fox needed him compared to how much he needed Fox. I really did not expect him to crash so insanely fast. Like I know setting up shop in Twitter was itself a mistake if he wanted regular mainstream reach on par with Fox but even the outright lunatic level guests he was getting on there from day one was a genuine surprise.
