if he re-enters the pool in February as planned, he can fight again in August. it will have been 25 months since his immediately prior loss to Dustin Poirier and and 31 months since his distantly prior loss to Dustin Poirier. I was going to make a joke about him getting ranked on February 1st at 12:00:00.00 AM but he's still at #14 in the lightweight rankings so lmao

Also he has been yoked up like a loving he-man character on social media for 6 months which goes well beyond the most generous interpretations of therapeutic use. And Conor's opponent will be Tony Ferguson. I'll eat 3 days if it isn't.

Brut posted:Hmmm I had assumed they do but in like, quantities that actually make sense, but just that it inspired him to extend it to a couple years of turning in to the irish hulk. Thanks. I posted my thing. I've talked to several doctors about this, including a doctor who was an Olympic-hopeful wrestler who has fought against people who were openly on gear and knows his poo poo: PEDs like HGH or certain anabolics are actually prescribed for certain conditions therapeutically, yes, but like for full-blown HIV, or conditions that cause people no longer to have an intestine. Not for broken bones. Many of the most popular muscle-building anabolics will actually increase the risk of muscle tears because they increase water retention in connective tissues. Excluding dodgy american anti-aging clinics, exogenous testosterone is also something that does get therapeutically prescribed but only in tiny quantities, and only for endocrine problems, because it carries risks of unpredictable, catastrophic side effects such as blood clots. EPO will get prescribed to people with kidney problems, but that won't help healing. Healing requires time and physiotherapy. Basically, if any athlete says "I took the PEDs to help with healing my injury," the most charitable interpretation is that it's a psychological crutch/placebo effect to deal with the anxiety of their career pivoting on the quality of the recovery. In some cases the athletes may actually believe it, but athletes also believe that cupping helps their performance or that certain colours of KT tape can help performance in certain ways. That's the charitable interpretation. Most often, it's just an excuse for cheating, on par with "I ate tainted kangaroo meat" or "my foot cream did it."

Don’t anabolics also risk swelling you up faster than your ligaments and tendons can strengthen to endure all the extra muscle?
|
# ? Nov 25, 2022 02:19 |

There have been some heavy users that claim certain substances had adverse effects on their joints and ligaments. But that was also in an era where guys didn't understand cycling off the stuff every so often. So you'd have someone like say, Superstar Billy Graham shooting up roids year round until he was a mess. From listening to podcasts with bodybuilders these days, they at least understand some of the PEDs they take are extra toxic for their body compared to others and stay off the heavy stuff when out of competition. I think its less they do stuff to your tendons and more you're putting a lot more stress on them in a shortened period of time. Happens a lot with explosive athletes. They'll take an offseason and get yuuuuge and then first time they go to do something explosive a tendon just detonates. But that's because there's like 1.5 times the muscle mass and extra force on them etc and that increased stress hasn't been gradual. Not a doctor though obvs.

Shumagorath posted:Don’t anabolics also risk swelling you up faster than your ligaments and tendons can strengthen to endure all the extra muscle? Eh I feel like there is a chance that regular steroid users get injuries because: 1. They are pushing their bodies TO THE LIMIT and even if they are truly stronger than naturals, they are competing against other pro athletes or world class weight lifters and pushing their training beyond anything sensible 2. Cycling on and off, or trying different powerful drugs at different dosages is going to have your strength and recovery abilities all over the place and you'll lose track and try to bench 400 pounds for reps 6 times in one week. E. It's not really that difficult if you're natty to work out too hard and get muscle strains or ligament injuries or joint injuries, too. So as an update to how well PFL's run-up to its inaugural pay-per-view tonight is going, they apparently e-mailed a ton of the journalists they'd credentialed to cover the event informing them that there was no room and their press access was cancelled, realized they'd massively hosed up the only way anyone will know there's a PFL pay-per-view happening, and a very, very tired PFL media person has been reaching out individually to apologize and say it was a mistake and they can still come.
