She only started playing a couple of months ago. Of course she didn't get past the audition. I would say the theme of her character arc is "there's always next year", rather than just suppressing her disappointment. Life isn't just about instant gratification.

I really do think she's perfectly happy and her friends are projecting their own anxieties onto her. She just started playingn band a few months ago and has made friends doing it, and she got rejected by a guy she's talked to like twice and is completely over it because it happens.

Didn't she learn it too well already? They chastised her for not considering freshman prodigies next year, and therefore she needs to keep practicing regularly instead of just assuming she'll magically be better by next year.

They did tell her that but it didn't stick until she played with the others and got the idea that her job was support. (That is to say, when she was rewarded with an instant evidence of making progress.) She also was the one who was most impatient about the audition. When you get the 'baritone' parts(and usually do for most lower level stuff) , they are usually loving awful, but if the part is actually labelled properly as for euphonium there's a good chance the composer actually knows how to use it, and the intermediate/high level wind band music have incredible euphonium parts. This show is still really good, i love the lowkey but important characterisation and character growth. It reminds me a lot of Hyouka in that way and makes me wonder if kyoani seeks out things to adapt that are like that, or if it is their spin on those stories that achieves it. I also hope the girl who plays the baby seal passed the audition.
