So apparently this album is a concept album about Amy Winehouse becoming a battle rapper?

It’s going off this line she has about how each song she has she’ll kill you like a samurai or something. Here’s a vid of her saying it lol

https://youtu.be/WGM6oI0Qtoc?si=7lUcT3aNXugbcPvy

Not really surprising, I think Lupe also has a song about extinction but from the dinosaurs point of view or some poo poo?

Well the rap production thread is dead as poo poo, so I’ll put this here. A mixtape of Action Bronson verses from the Blue Chips series, all over Jamaican music. I had an intrusive thought a couple weeks ago and this is what happened. Enjoy with a drink or spliff on a porch.

Got miself a nice little earner, isn't it
i have strong memories of listening to royce bar exam 1 and lupe food and liquor mixed together while walking to and from my building back in 2007. always a fan of both, two artists that really shouldn't have had anything to do with each other but then lupe ate royces soul, that was crazy

Footage circulating twitter (which I won’t share for obvious reasons) of Diddy absolutely whipping on his ex in a hotel. Throwing her to the ground, kicking her, etc. Bury him under the jail

Well I'll share a link to that poo poo on CNN 'cause folks are going to go looking anyway: https://edition.cnn.com/2024/05/17/entertainment/sean-combs-cassie-ventura
wouldn't recommend watching the video, it's not a good time!
It's from 8 years ago and allegedly Diddy paid 50k for the security cam footage. What a hosed up system!

Other recently discussed non-rapper rappers should take some notes from Zack Fox, the whole set is worth listening to.

journey into Kirk's unknown

Haven't seen either of these posted here, and search didn't turn up anything so here I go, trying to put a bit of effort into this post and not just dropping a bunch of links.

B. Dolan put out a new album recently that I've been enjoying, feels a bit like a throwback for its genre but fresh. It's nice, maybe understated is the word I'm looking for. First got into him with Fallen House, Sunken City in 2010, the Leaving New York track below) grungy, dark and two words I'd use to describe. It and it's been interesting to see him develop over the years. He got his start doing slam poetry and unsurprisingly has been involved in a bunch social causes/activism and all of which has been a thread he's carried throughout his work over the years. This quote from his wiki made me laugh and probably does a decent job describing him a bit,

quote:

Doing spoken word was the first time I ever tried to present my writing on a stage, and that's what it was good for. It taught me some basic stage tricks that I still use — like how to change my voice and talk to a crowd. But once you've picked up those chops, you need to get the hell out before you become some rear end in a top hat who wins the poetry slam for the 10th year in a row.

Also 50% of Epic Beard Men with Sage Francis, a hip hop duo from Providence, RI and whose music I'd definitely qualify as fun, but not empty.

Juan Deuce

Also from Providence, I think I've posted some of his music randomly in "what are you listening to now" type threads but always felt criminal he never got more popular than he did. I appreciate the upbeat, fun, but sharp lyrics/beats, and I've seen a definite and consistent improvement from The Mechanics, his first EP released in 2011. From that album, Guts is a stand out and the whole album holds up. Since then he's put out 5 other albums (if I can count properly) and a bunch of singles, and they're all pretty solid. Here's a top 10 Spotify playlist I put together a while back.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lrZxawIFHkA

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C9KG7IYjBOg

Can't even find this one on Youtube,
https://juandeuce.bandcamp.com/track/doug-christie

Hopefully not posting this in the wrong thread, surprised their names didn't come up during a search although I'm sure Sage Francis' did, it must have. I've loved their music for years and always felt somewhat baffled they never got more popular than they did, so I feel compelled to do my part and share some of their work. Although for those into indie hip hop or whatever the label is, you're probably already familiar.

It's wild that a producer I loved in the early 00s disappeared for two decades and is now producing a record for rappers I love in 2024.
