My grandma's house in Wisconsin, big old farmhouse. The stairway to the 2nd floor was pretty rarely vacuumed so I guess it's mostly a dust smell, with decades of my family's general scents on the walls and in the air. My Uncle who's only like 2 years older than me, his room was upstairs, so now that hallway smells like Ninja Gaiden for the NES to me. Or that awful Rollergames game.

Humid summer night air in a dense stand of pine trees. An occasional fresh breeze, damp flakey fallen bark, cloying sap, all mixed with the smell of a crackling campfire of pine wood. It is the last thing you smell as you drift to sleep after playing in a creek all day. This makes it smell even better.

serious norman posted:gasoline Qualifier: LEADED gas. The smell of damp wood from the river docks wafting on a slight breeze on a late summer night. The crisp, clean scent of the frigid, still air when it's -20 degrees. The pungent scent of wood smoke on a cool autumn night. That first scent of thawing soil in spring.

Supposedly someone successfully sued for damages after a car crash severed their olfactory nerves thereby completely obliterating the sense of smell. As the story goes, the prosecuting attorney had the jury eat plain rice cakes that had either sugar, lemon juice, salt, or caffeine on them, to convey that those were the only things the plaintiff would ever be able to experience during a meal. Smell is cool and good.

Vetiver. It's a deep-rooting bush grass that's great for preventing soil erosion and putting nutrients back into toxic landscapes, like old strip mines and such. A handful of fresh vetiver cuttings smells like a warm, clean, spicy springtime in the heaven of your chosen religion.

Plethora posted:Vetiver. https://www.creedboutique.com/US/fragrance/original-vetiver/100ML Don't buy it from them, shop around at places like fragrance net, scented monkey, etc. and watch for sales. I find that their 4oz bottles last me 2-3 years with a spray on my chest, one for both wrists, and half a spray on the back of my neck. If you love the smell that much, it's probably worth it to you. You can check it out at places like Saks 5th Ave, Nordstrom's, and high end retailers like that, but buy online because it's a huge savings. edit: My go-to is Himalaya by Creed.
