Here's a new subscription service, appears to be $5/mo but their site is really thin on the details right now: https://yaoi.cat/ Mostly just noting this so I can eventually add it to the list of where to read stuff that I still need to put in the 2nd post.

I like the part where they share Renta's manga but you only get to read them w/a sub instead of forever once bought.

Alder posted:I like the part where they share Renta's manga but you only get to read them w/a sub instead of forever once bought. They have a bunch I've seen at other places, but I didn't look far enough into it to see if maybe they're all by the same publisher or what. Buying books individually can get kind of expensive so if you had a list of stuff you wanted to read, grabbed a month (or did their free trial) and read all of them at once that might be a cheap way to read a bunch of manga without resorting to but you wouldn't get the benefit of having them to re-read whenever you wanted.

The Chil-Chil BL Awards are up and I thought I'd go through the "Best Manga" list & note what's available in English currently or will be soon, and/or if there are other manga by the same author you can get instead. 1) One Room Angel by Harada Unfortunately One Room Angel has not, to my knowledge, been licensed (same for Happy Kuso Life). However you can read several works by Harada in English on Renta! I highly recommend Yata & Momo, and the Positive anthology has a really great series of oneshots featuring a roleplaying couple. The two anthologies are a bit of a mixed bag but will give you a fairly thorough overview of Harada's body of work and the way they bounce between raunchy fun humor, earnest emotional notes, and some really dark hosed up poo poo. 2) Koi o Suru Tsumori wa Nakatta by Suzumaru Minta available on Futekiya as I Didn't Mean to Fall in Love. I haven't read this one yet but their other manga, Golden Sparkle, is one I absolutely love so I expect to like this one a lot as well! 3) Shangri-la no Tori by Zariya Licensed by SuBLime as Birds of Shangri-La, release date is Nov.10 2020 -- they also have Coyote, Void, and Liquor & Cigarettes 4) Love Nest by Minaduki Yuu Love Nest is a sequel/spinoff of a series that starts with Sayonara Game and continues with Change World. Unfortunately none of the series is licensed nor is anything else that I can find which is a real shame 5) Happy Kuso Life by Harada See #1 6) Itsuka Koi ni Naru Made by Kurahashi Tomo Available on Renta! as Someday I'll Fall for You and is the prequel for Let's Be a Family which is an absolute gem and one of my favorites -- I highly recommend them both. 7) By My Side by Natsume Kazuki Another author who unfortunately has no manga licensed in English 8) Tasogare Outfocus by Janome No official English releases for this author either -- this manga has been requested pretty heavily from what I've seen so I'm really hoping someone picks it up. 9) Lost Virgin by Nagi Wataru Not licensed -- judging from covers and synopsis this one and the series it's a spinoff from are a little on the trashy side but I haven't read them. 10) My Little Inferno by Asada Nemui This manga isn't licensed but you can read Admonition From An Elder Brother in English. My experience with this author is that they write interesting stories with a pretty dark tone so this one is probably going some places. 11) Shinjuu Suru Made Mattete ne by Ichinashi Kimi Nothing licensed by this author and I've never read anything by them myself 12) Kimitte Yatsu wa Konna ni mo by Fumikawa Jimi Available on Renta! as I Seriously Can't Believe You -- this one is very cute and fluffy They've got another one on there with salarymen that looks pretty lewd lmao, I haven't read it though so I can't say anything about it one way or the other. Futekiya also has one of their other manga and I'm gonna say it's very nsfw since they gave it *five* hot peppers lol 13) Tabete mo Oishiku Arimasen by Yamada Nichoume This one isn't licensed but you can read Detested by the Demon Lord on Renta; I gave that one a look and didn't really care for it but YMMV, especially if you like tsunderes 14) Ikenie no Otsutome wa by Hakase I don't have any info on this manga or author, they don't have anything licensed and I haven't read anything by them. 15) Usagi no Mori by Enjo This author only has two manga and neither are licensed but they are *super good* character-focused slow burns and I'm really hoping one or both of them will get picked up. 16) Shigatsu no Tokyo wa by Haru Available on Futekiya as Last Stop is Tokyo; I haven't read it yet but it's on my list to read because instead of being about a relationship starting it begins with one about to end and that sounds really interesting. 17) Link & Ring by Tsuyuki Yuruco This one is on Futekiya as...Link and Ring :v They only started posting chapters a couple of weeks ago so it's on my list but I was waiting for the full thing to be released before reading it -- looks like a sweet story that would be a good option if you were looking for something light (it's just one pepper!) 18) Akari to Kare wa Nayamashii by Tsurukame Mayo This is another spinoff and I'd love to see it and the original series get picked up but as of now there aren't any official English releases. 19) Petit Mignon by Hasumi Hana Yeah I have no idea; this is omegaverse so I'm not touching it. 20) Achira Kochira Bokura by Thanat Available on Futekiya as Here and There and Us. They've picked up several manga by Thanat; I haven't read all of them yet but they have a pretty broad range, content-wise. There were a bunch of other categories but this list is all I'm going to do this for -- should give you a pretty good place to start if you're looking for something new to read! e: Here's the rest of the list https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/interest/2020-04-07/twittering-birds-never-fly-given-top-2020-bl-awards/.158287 Everything Burrito fucked around with this message at 21:04 on Apr 7, 2020 |

Julias posted:Is the plot twist that the short chubby guy is a top and the tall confident looking man is a bottom? a few chapters of this got fan translated and it was more on the cute workplace romcom level and hadn't progressed to them actually dating but this is BL and having something stagnate with no progress is very out of character for the genre so hopefully that question will get answered :3

Watermelon Daiquiri posted:Ooooo this is amazing! Thanks so much for sharing this, Burrito as well as your general service to this thread and Fujos everywhere They're just getting started so the manga list is still pretty small but they're still working on it. I've been using mangago to keep track of things I've read and rated which is probably less than ideal and there's also mangaupdates as an option for that, but since this is both BL-specific and focused on legal, licensed manga it's a little bit different and will hopefully become a good resource.

Futekiya is free for the whole month of May: https://twitter.com/futekiya/status/1256078566640549895?s=19 You have to register an account and they'll charge you if you're still signed up on June 1 but it's a pretty good opportunity to check out their library. I'm in bed phone-posting so I can't right now but at some point this weekend I'll make a rec list to get folks started if you need ideas on what to read while you've got the chance. Also a nice bonus for me -- current subscribers don't get charged for the month either

FUTEKIYA "WHERE TO START??" LIST The Pure☆Knight’s Shining Journey & sequel The Pure☆Knight’s Shining Journey: The Road Home While other knights might pour their time into drinks and brothels, Gael Faris does not. He does not drink. He does not sleep around all for the grand plan of becoming a paladin. Though Gael has failed the paladin examination, he continues to perform his knightly duties for the town Fastes. While on his rounds, Gael accidentally recuses Elcielas, an elf, from thieves. Elcielas recruits Gael to escort him on his mission to the capital to save the king. But, will Gael be able to stay pure on their journey? I know I push this one a lot but I just love it that much. It's fantasy! It's not isekai! It's funny and cute and bittersweet! Read it! Yuki and Matsu On a dark and snowy night, Sho-an drags home what he believes to be the corpse of a beautiful man. But, even though Sho-an is ready to reduce the body into medical supplies, he is dismayed to discover the body lives. Sho-an names his corpse-cum-patient Yuki and gains a houseguest that eats his food and keeps his bed warm throughout the year. Even if you don't dig period manga check this out for the art -- this mangaka has a really unique and interesting art style and this manga is visually stunning. Golden Sparkle Himari Uehara, for a first-year high school boy, knows very little about sex. Without his father at home and having skipped health in middle school, Himari is only confused when he wakes up with his boxers a mess and has no one for advice. Luckily, Himari has Gaku Asada, a new friend from high school who offers to teach him everything and more he missed out in health class. I Didn't Mean to Fall in Love Yoshino is gay, thirty, and definitely not flirty - he's never even dated anyone. He seems to have accepted the fact that he'll die alone, until one night, in a gay bar for the first time in his life, he meets young, charming silver-haired Rou and grabs some drinks with him. Yoshino is drawn to Rou's mysterious charm and they spend the night together talking...one thing leads to another and suddenly that's not the only thing they're doing tonight...? A sloppy, happy love story between a handsome college student playing the game of love the easy way, and a working adult who has yet to know what love is. These two are both by the same mangaka and while they are entirely different settings they share a similar theme of first love and inexperience. She does a great job of revealing the characters' inner selves and their stories are very sweet with fun touches of humor. Shinjuku Lucky Hole After the sudden death of his debt-ridden father, Kumi’s past life as a high schooler ends forever. His future as a porn star begins when the yakuza throws Kumi into the care of Sakuma, a trainer of adult video talent. While Sakuma teaches Kumi the art of sex, Kumi can’t separate the feeling of love with sex. Flash forward years later. Kumi and Sakuma live together, work together, and sometimes even platonically share the same bed. They also found their own adult video production company called Lucky Hole. FYI same author as Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu. Fantastic art & really interesting characters, plus a seedy setting to give it some grit. They also have the anthology with The Rain in Monte Carlo so when you're done with this one click her name and read that one too. Simplified Pervert Romance A lone wolf with a delinquent streak, Kashima enters high school with a reputation that scares off his classmates. Little do his classmates know, Kashima is not a typical delinquent: he is a masochist that enjoys being hit by guys. Ryouji Sanada, despite Kashima's reputation, goes out of his way to talk to Kashima on the first day of high school. Confused by Ryouji, Kashima rebuffs his handsome classmate. But, when Ryouji intervenes in one of Kashima's fight (and attempt to get off), Kashima realizes that Ryouji might just have a secret "perversion" too... I went into this one expecting just a smut manga but was pleasantly surprised to find that it's actually a very slow burn romance with two boys who are both figuring out their own fetishes and trying to understand their feelings. There are 3 volumes and it's ongoing so hopefully they'll get the 3rd volume soon because I'm really enjoying this one. -- I may try to add some more later or do a part 2 list at some point because there are more good ones but I kinda want to refresh my memory on some of them so I can point out any content that might need a heads-up first.

interesting thread https://twitter.com/AnimesocMegan/status/1259005917418459136?s=20 I'm glad the interview confirms what I had been seeing just reading modern BL, that a lot of the more harmful tropes that people have associated with it are dying out. I wasn't sure if fan translators & english publishers were just being more selective and less of that stuff was getting translated but it really felt like the genre overall has been moving away from that type of storyline more and more so it was nice to see confirmation.
