you know that one dude at the game store? he's in there every time you've gone in, he's always running something, he's almost always the GM or the banker or the archbishop. he just likes games and nothing else. someone offhandedly mentions Tunnels and Trolls one time and he reaches into his rolling backpack and he's got an original 1975 edition signed by Ken St Andre. it's not like he lords this stuff over anybody, and just as well, since he clearly hasn't changed his style since he started dressing himself (koolaid socks, sweatpant shorts, plain t-shirt) and he sounds like someone trying to make fun of the sort of guy who spends all his time at the game store, but even more so. and eventually it comes out that one of the weird vague rumors floating around is true... despite the fact that he works as a bagboy he does have a masters in economics, or despite his current physique he does hold the state record for pole vault, or maybe it's just that his dad is in fact Rip Torn. he doesn't bring it up. he just wants to game. and you hear a couple years later that he died of a heart attack at 35, and despite the fact that you couldn't really stand to be around him, he seemed like a good guy. but then you run into him later, alive and well. he's at the game store, of course. he's running games. nobody knows where or why the rumor started. but he's there.

When friends mention something where an anecdote about posts I read on a forum would be relevant, I mention it, and the conversation is enriched. Eventually they ask about it and I briefly explain this hobby or interest of mine, and they feel as though they've gained a greater understanding of me and where I come from.

I wouldn't but if i had to I would says its a forum style site with forums for all kinds of stuff. GBS is for random free chat and the other sub-forums are for all kinds of stuff, some have an old school crew who act like gate keepers and it can be hard to sometimes enjoy those parts of the site because of that.
