Longevity of the coatings is an issue, plus dumb quantum stuff if the feature sizes are too close to the wavelengths of light the panels absorb. *other processes exist but I don't know anything about them. Presumably you can do photolithography but that seems like a big sheet for any of those machines I've ever seen.
