champagne socialism with chinese characteristics -_-

quote:

The three top European cuisines, caviar, foie gras, and truffle, used to be considered as luxury food, now being considered as snack, mainly due to made in China.

1. China has broken through the artificial breeding technology of sturgeon, and the production of caviar has skyrocketed, now accounting for 60% of the world's total.

2. Chinese foie gras now accounts for about 30% of global production, mainly in Linqu, Shandong and Lu'an, Anhui. Many European restaurants are importing foie gras from China;

3. Yunnan and Sichuan in China are the main truffle producing regions for truffles, accounting for approximately 60% of global production.

On the one hand, foreign media complain that China's product supply is too large, leading to a significant drop in prices and turning luxury goods into snacks; On the other hand, it also complain that the "make in China" flavor is not strong enough and the color is not bright enough......blablabla

But these complaints cannot stop the advantages of cheap prices and large production of Chinese products, which is caused by China's human resource and industrialization advantages.

Top food is not only for the wealthy people, but also for everyone. This is socialism with Chinese characteristics. Lol

IDK there's quickly executing an animal who had a good life, and then there's force feeding 4 pounds of clay sludge down a goose's throat every day until they die of liver disease

After visiting Shangri-la, I went to the remote Tibetan town of Daocheng, where a young monk named Phuntsok showed me around his monastery. “Without the Communist Party, we would not have freedom of religion,” Phuntsok told me as we walked through ornate chapels. He extolled the CCP’s support for Tibetan Buddhism, and no wonder: Locals told me that the monastery, Yangteng Gonpa, had received substantial government funding. A freshly paved road snaked up the mountainside on which the monastery was perched, ending at a parking lot built to accommodate hundreds of visitors. A new welcome gate was being erected, and the tourism office promoted Yangteng as one of the area’s main attractions.

During the cold war, the anticommunist ideological framework could transform any data about existing communist societies into hostile evidence. If the Soviets refused to negotiate a point, they were intransigent and belligerent; if they appeared willing to make concessions, this was but a skillful ploy to put us off our guard. By opposing arms limitations, they would have demonstrated their aggressive intent; but when in fact they supported most armament treaties, it was because they were mendacious and manipulative. If the churches in the USSR were empty, this demonstrated that religion was suppressed; but if the churches were full, this meant the people were rejecting the regime's atheistic ideology...

if you're in major cities it isn't too bad. if you're looking for explicitly vegan food you'll probably pay more (for the same lifestyle reasons as elsewhere), but incidental vegan food is easier assuming you can confirm that dishes don't use animal products

https://www.happycow.net/asia/china/

supposedly 5% of the country is vegan or vegetarian (which translates into 60M people, lol)

Yeah, I'm planning to do quite a bit of research on Happycow beforehand to get a good overview of what options are available.

Fun fact: because of China's map obfuscation, the map markers shown in Happycow are wrong. You have to open the map in Google Maps to see where the restaurant actually is.

It's theoretically possible to have animal husbandry without cruelty*, it's not possible to make force-feeding 4 pounds of slop a day to a goose until it dies of choking/liver disease/internal rupturing humane

Old time blog, don't think it was directly Daily Kos. Bilmon, something? Whiskeybar? Been around for ages. I think the main guy is some German former artillery dude. Not a monarchist, as far as I remember. It was, I think, the first place I saw making the case that Georgia initiated the Georgian war while it was ongoing. Haven't really followed it in years.

As long as you don't mind dishes made in the same wok that cook non vegan food, its easy to order vegetarian food in restaurants. But its hard to tell from the dish names.

Why? There was a pretty rapid transformation from a poor peasant society where eating meat was a sign of wealth to the preeminent industrial power. Culture follows material conditions, but with a lag.
