He won re-election by double digits after eking it out the first time and I think his constituency still loves him. He doesn't come off terribly in soundbites and he's certainly adept at throwing the base exactly what they want policy wise. But when people see him over any significant time, he comes incredibly inauthentic. Like, he's not even particularly good at it for a state politician, let alone one operating on a national stage. Never Trump conservatives I know like him mostly because he's the only one who has any traction against Trump, so they're basically with him until someone better comes along, which remains doubtful.
