I remember High Tension being hot poo poo when it came out and getting a wide release and everything, and it seemed like all the directors in that movement were getting big American gigs for a while too. Its not obscure if you're hanging around a movie discussion forum, but your average person on the street probably won't ever have seen a French movie of any genre, period. So they certainly won't know about a specific trend in French horror that peaked like ten years ago.
