Ok so my gf just sent me a calendar invite coincidentally, so this is what I received

No Siri thing at the top of this one, I’m not sure what determines that as I’ve had it come up sometimes but not all. I hit the ‘Yes’ button which has confirmed it on her side, but nothing appears on my side for it. If I hit that ICS attachment it’s going to add an entry on my calendar, but it’ll be greyed out and I won’t be able to fully accept it until I’m at a computer. Which is fine but annoying.

Have I missed a step?

Make sure your Google account with the calendar entry you marked as "Yes" in the e-mail is setup to sync in iOS Settings > Calendar > Accounts with Calendars marked to Sync:

That’s the point though, I don’t have* a Google account to sync with. It’s my girlfriend who uses a Pixel who sends invites to my iCloud account.

* I mean I do, but I don’t have it linked to my phone and it’s not where she sends the invite, it’s a spam box.

I'm afraid I've hit my troubleshooting limit with this one, unfortunately - Could be a Google issue, could be an Apple issue.

I do know responding to GCal invites with a response using a GCal calendar synced within iOS will display the calendar and attendance correctly throughout iOS apps, though.

Yeah, *something* changed on one of their ends that affects iOS but not MacOS. Maybe one day it’ll be fixed but who knows. Thanks for providing feedback though!

Yes, I know I'm old, get off my fucking lawn so I can yell at these clouds.

Anecdotally as an ignorant user it certainly feels like something changed in how google and apple talk to each other. I had to turn off pulling contacts from google because all of a sudden it was flooding my contacts list with literally every email account that sent me something on that account. poo poo like customer service bots and shipping confirmations from do not reply email addresses.

It was easy enough to fix but goddamn that was an unpleasant surprise. No idea what they changed, but it certainly had an impact.

Any recommendations for a non-subscription iPad app to make 2D layouts? My primary need is to be able to keep things to scale according to my measurements. Here’s an example of what I want to convert to raster form and have correct scaled dimensions:

e: Mac thread recommended TouchDraw, which has both an iPad and a Mac version! :waycool:

Having trouble watching YouTube videos on my iPad with the Vinegar extension. On my iPhone it works fine, but on my iPad videos are just back screens and audio only. Anyone know how to fix this? I've tried disabling and reenabling the extension.

Can anyone recommend a learn chess app on iPad and iPhone?

i cant fix avs like this because idk the bbcode - HTML IS BS MAN
I haven’t had any problem with Vinegar so no suggestions, just confirming mine does work fine on iPad and iPhone. I have had some weird issues with airplay when using Vinegar, it’s my first time using it (new tv) and sometimes it just does audio, but that could be my browser or tv or something else entirely.

Learning chess - This was a while back but I liked Learn Chess with Dr Wolf but I didn’t keep going with it because I have too many hobbies and too little time. I’m sure there’s plenty of others that are fine too but this is just what I had experience with.

It taught me a bunch about openings and board control, the sort of stuff I’ve kind of intuited somewhat from playing without fully understanding the why. There’s a bunch of lessons where you learn by doing, you can also play games against the ai, then review with Dr Wolf who will explain errors and let you find a better move.

I want to make a photo widget bigger than the default options allow, is there an app that does that for free or one time cost? I’ve tried a bunch and they all want subscriptions

WidgetSmith does this. There are premium options to tweak styles etc but for just a big photo it works for free.

Yeah if I VPN to Ukraine and go to youtube.com/premium while logged out. the page just says "This offer is not available. To manage your account, please go to Account > Purchases and memberships.", When logged in it's "We couldn't verify your country. Please visit the Help Centre for more information."

I think i had to go "Connect VPN" -> Open Private Browser -> Login to Google Account -> Purchase subscription.
I believe they can look at browser data (cookies etc...) to try and detect your country.

But i also had to try a few different countries before i could get it to work, i used Phillipines last time i renewed.

This is probably a very stupid one to look for but is there a good app to track my haircutsrecommend a new haircut for me based on a 3D scan of my big dumb head? I figure ARKit probably has a better sense of fashion than I do.

Hmm, maybe next time I’m at my PC I’ll try it through a browser I’ve never logged into anything with and see if that helps. Do I need to set up a virtual credit card usually?

I use a privacy.com card, and set a $5 monthly limit or whatever.

Anyone got any recs for a super simple habit tracker app that doesn't brazenly try to charge you a freakin' monthly subscription!? Just want to be able to check off whether I've done my daily life admin tasks in any given otherwise identical day

I don't know of one designed for that sort of thing, but I do use an insanely simple app called "Logsit" to track random poo poo that you could probably make work for you.

All it does is let you create an item like "brushed teeth" and swipe to record an event. You can make as many of these as you want and have reminders too.

No ads and no subscriptions and no social features.

Reminders might do the trick. I use it for monthly things, but daily should be doable too.

Clear alcohols are for rich women on diets.
They don’t push shorts in the iOS app, but it definitely occasionally features some. I have premium and this is still the case.

I don’t know if that behavior is configurable. I’ve looked in the past and it doesn’t appear to be.

i had to play around with locations a little bit, plus google's trying to crack down on that. i ended up settling on a great little vacation property in hungary where it's like $2.50/mo equivalent, so maybe try that? i wanna say turkey may also have worked?
i did have to jump through hoops of "verifying" my payment information which iirc was just entering my cvv code again or whatever. also did it on a windows desktop where there's a lot lower opportunity for the site to discern my true location outside of the vpn connection.
