I also don't know why they called AVGN out specifically like its his fault but I think they were talking more what makes that general style of WHAT THE gently caress WERE THEY THINKING criticism such a popular genre i.e. outcasts with low self esteem finding catharsis in being the mocker. There's a bit of truth to that, I think, even with innocent stuff that focuses solely on games/movies/whatever like MST3K and AVGN, Many of their less talented, more desperate imitators come to rely on that audience as a crutch or intentionally feed it though, which will lead to unhealthy situations and feedback loops of course. I know most if not all the people involved in retsupurae, for example, have said they regret many of the early videos for how often they resorted to mocking the lper directly and I'll admit part of my enjoyment back then was getting to throw my insecurities onto someone else instead of dealing with them in a healthier way.

Yeah that. I haven't watched a lot of AVGN videos but it was a problem with a lot of the imitators, even the ones involved in the Channel Awesome clusterfuck, that they ended up basically going through the mock thread process and going after anything vaguely unpopular or weird. Or popular and mainstream. The endgame is basically CinemaSins. And apparently that went out of fashion hard somewhat recently.

I reread The Count of Monte Cristo recently and it does indeed own. Funny how all the talk about high finance is loving impenetrable for like three reasons at least.

i dont think so op. usually my field of vision is perfectly clear, but maybe like a few times a year random areas of it will suddenly turn to blurry splotches in one eye for maybe half an hour or so. no headache accompanies it so idk about the ocular migraine thing but the non-headache symptoms line up

Something like this can happen if you get high levels of cortisol (low sleep, stress etc). Don't remember what it's called, that's just what the retina specialist told me.

another cool random event that happens in my head somewhat more often (earlier today in fact) is sharp stabbing pains in my right temple. they'll just show up and pulse five or six times to make me stop whatever im doing and say "gently caress, stop, please stop" while i shut my eyes and clutch my head. never know when it's going to happen, it's a fun surprise

i did get some kind of head scan for this reason and nothing appeared out of the ordinary to the doctor so idk

I do wonder if boba was loving things up on purpose to variously fish for sympathy and be able to 'improve' from apparently taking people's criticism for a whole arc. It wouldn't surprise me at this point.

Currently reading Blue Pastoral by Gilbert Sorrentino, but I wouldn't recommend it unless you want the mean, outdated avant-garde of the eighties. Read The Public Burning by Robert Coover instead for a similar and better experience. Last book I read that I really liked was 18 Stories by Heinrich Böll. Post war German melancólico short stories about vergangenheitsbewältigung and continuing to grow up as an adult.

Also read Moby Dick if you haven't, or if you have
