Paracelsus posted:If you're looking to try awesome things that aren't action oriented, Time of Eve, Mushishi, and Mononoke are all excellent. Kino's Journey has occasional action scenes, but is mostly observation of new lands. Cool. Unless that's Princess Mononoke I haven't seen any of these. edit: Forgot to mention that I've seen/really enjoyed (most of, I still have a few episodes left) Space Dandy as well.

Crunchyroll tagged it SOL, so I'm calling it SOL. Either way, not my usual fare.

Anime Genres I usually watch, in no particular order: Sketch Comedy (Nichijou/Nichibros/Binan Koukou Chikyuu Boueibu LOVE!) Magical Girl(/Sentai, for the like 3 or 4 animated Sentai anime) Mecha Card Game Whatever Genre you'd consider Death Note and Code Grease Watched a shitload of Shonen when I was a kid, but lost patience for it when I grew up. Anime I've watched and loved from other genres: Spice and Wolf Chihayafuru (technically a card game anime but the fate of the world isn't decided by Karuta so) Lain JJBA Toss me something else.

I've started watching a couple episodes of Big O, and I like it a lot! So that's going to be one of the shows I'm watching this month. Another one I started awhile ago but dropped due to time constraints was Banner/Crest/(whatever the first series was) of the Stars. I don't really watch sci-fi space operas, but the banter in it was great. I might finish that as well. Most likely I'm just going to watch a whole bunch of Ghibli movies though. Gonna start with Porco Rosso first, but after that I have no idea. If anyone else wants to throw in recommendations, cheers. List of Ghibli movies I've seen so far: Spirited Away Princess Mononoke Kiki's Delivery Service Howl's Moving Castle And a bunch of other short stuff like the Cat Returns. I think I remember seeing Totoro a long time ago, but I don't really remember it.

I'll add Love Live to my list, so I'm covering 3 genres I normally don't consider. For the record, that's on top of A Turn Gundam and Chihayafuru.

While it's not technically a Ghibli film, you should check out Castle of Cagliostro if you haven't seen it. It's definitely a Miyazaki movie so it totally counts as a Ghibli movie in spirit.

If you're looking to kill two birds with one stone in a comic, screaming lessons is both shoujo and horror, and plays out like a middle school version of tales from the crypt, except it doeant really pull any punches despite how young everybody is. I didn't read all of it but I liked what I did.

Watched episode one of Anohana, overall thought it wasn't bad. I had looked into checking it out a while back (partially why I picked it), so I was sorta spoiled on Menma being dead. But I don't think the episode was trying to frame it in a way. I guess she's a full-out ghost instead of a hallucination, though? Other thoughts: The timing for some of the subs was off a bit, and that got on my nerves. Nice OP, not quite hooked on the ED. Did think the OP animation should have had the shots of the kids running around their older selves be without the younger version of the character they were around. I'm not really a big fan of the "MC is doing absolutely nothing until the story gets underway" trope, but that's done now. Poppo is either still using the clubhouse to hold on to the good ol' days, or it really is just a nice place to hide his porn.

The other week I decided to give Busou Shinki a watch, mostly because a giant statue landed on a store I buy figures from and it looked kinda cool. Well, the anime is about a guy collecting sentient robot figmas that are designed for combat, but he refuses to send them into fights because their paint-job could get damaged. The rest of the episodes I watched had the main character draw the affection of his figures and in one episode he forgets them at home when he goes on beach vacation and he sits his sad rear end down at the beach playing with the toys that his figmas would have been playing with at the beach and then I had to stop as it was the saddest human being I had ever seen. I do not recommend Busou Shinki. The statue is still pretty cool, but horribly overpriced.

If it makes you feel better, he's not a real human being. A real human would never leave his figmas behind
