Hanakaku is something I'm really excited to read in the coming months, it's apparently been running for about three years so there's a pretty good amount of backlog before we switch to monthly. It's really good so far, strong cast of characters 6 chapters in.

Let's not and say we did. Or say we didn't, too. Horimiya: A super popular highschool girl, and a gloomy boy in the same class... When they meet outside, surprise: she's actually a stay-at-home carer of her little brother and he's an tattooed, air-headed punk with a tragic past. Can they keep each other's secrets? Will they fall in love? It's shoujo, that's rhetorical? It skips a lot of the worst tropes (no 'stupid misunderstandings that take five chapters to clear up' or '200 chapters of love triangle') and all the characters are great. And it's not creepy fetish wankbait. Christ.

Horimiya owns it just doesn't update very often especially considering how short the chapters are. It really is all the best parts of shoujo without the "huh that arc ended well let's introduce a completely arbitrary strain on the main relationship". Most of the ongoing conflict is just like, being part of a social circle. A+ would recommend.

most of the ongoing conflict between hori and miyamura is just, like, "I wish my boyfriend would choke me a little bit" or "I really wish my boyfriend would hit me more often" if you can endure that disturbing little trend in their relationship, the series is good, hori needs a therapist something fierce though

(Haven't actually been keeping up so maybe it gets really bad later or something)

It's pretty minor and it just seems like she likes to see him take charge. What you've never had a partner tell you they like it rough? It's pretty normal

It's mostly that Miyamura is clearly super uncomfortable with it, and she wants him to do it in public.

The real problem with Horimiya is that many in the supporting cast are super forgettable.

Horimiya also aggressively abandoned its premise in a really weird way too. It starts out with the leads both having pretty significant secrets that alienate them from their classmates. Hori is the popular girl in school who hides that she's basically raising her brother by herself because dad's a deadbeat who's been gone for years and her mom works so much she often goes days without seeing her. Everyone thinks Miyamura is a shy nerd with no friends but he's a punk hiding all his tattoos and piercings. Flash forward and uh now they're both popular, almost everyone knows about Miyamura's tattoos and poo poo and Hori's parents are major supporting characters who seem to literally always be hanging around her house so... It sort of destroyed a ton of any potential conflict or drama tbh.

That's fair but if I mentally think back on the majority of chapters I've enjoyed it's probably been post-abandonment of said premise. I still rather like Horimiya, even if there is not much to "look forward to" at this point other than maybe getting some side characters together. I think it handles a couple getting together relatively early as well as most do and I still tend to enjoy any given new chapter even if sometimes I have to think back to who the involved characters actually are and/or be uncomfortable with how Hori sometimes treats Miyamura.

If you're going to dress up, do it like this! A slobby guy in his twenties realises that he has no sense of fashion or how to dress to match the occassion. His sister steps up to teach him (and you) how to cast off that slobby tracksuit and co-ordinate! Types of jackets and which bodies they flatter! Accessories! Lots of brand name drops and commercialism! but the actual content is handy and the story isn't half-bad. you should totes read it.

I disagree with some of the fashion choices, but as a little sister who helped teach two brothers how to dress, this is great. One of my brothers was pretty bad at making outfits but wore clothes nicely enough that he could get away with it, and the other one just got used to wearing hand me downs.
