Honestly she should have just performed her other single instead of Driver’s License it’s much better

But her new song is ever better

A solid performance, especially from such a young artist. Not long a person can do that, at that age, before their voice burns out.

I thought she might drop the f-bomb for just a moment. Good “Cobain at the VMAs” energy!

Pwn what are some of your favorite musical performances, since you have it all archived? I can't get remotely excited about Spring 2021 Disney Pop and I thought back to when System of a Down's guitarist screamed "fuuuccckk yoooouuuuu" towards the end of BYOB. Yeah it’s dope finally the early 2000s pop-rock reboot is hitting the mainstream

Edit: here’s the other single that’s also better than Driver’s License, she’s batting 3/3 on dope bridges

Are you watching the That Week in SNL twitch stream? They ran the SoaD episode this last week and it was surprisingly better than I remember (the music i mean, not the surrounding show). In the early 2000s I was tuned out of most pop music and going through my Zep/Floyd phase.

As for top SNL performances, wow I may need to dedicate some time to that. Also, until recently, I hadn’t seen the majority of 1980-1992 episodes in their entirety, and I just finished 83-84 tonight, so it’ll be a few months yet until I can be definitive. A few off the top: Neil Young 1992 and 1989, Crash Test Dummies, Billy Joel 1993, Fear, Nirvana 1992, Elvis Costello 1989, Ornette Coleman, Zappa 1976, Sun Ra, there are a lot more I need to find a way to upload clips and make a big playlist. I gotta get back to watching the live show

I would argue that it has better lyrics than Misery Business which is the most “I’m not like those other whores” 2000s teenage alt girl energy. There’s a reason Hayley Williams doesn’t perform it anymore.

No, but now that you mention it, it was in May of 2005. I remembered it being towards the end of the season and 2005's easy enough for me to remember because they put out two, different studio albums that year. If you have the original broadcast, the camera centers right on Daron's eyes popping out of his skull as he screams "gently caress you" and I haven't watched a single episode of SNL in almost two decades without thinking of it. More surprisingly, that was the first song, so even though they got one out on live TV, they still were allowed to play their second song. I had to look it up again this morning and it looks like it was Jason Sudekis' first episode, too.

I forgot Fear was ever on SNL (despite the riots) and the Sun Ra performance slipped my mind, too. Thanks for the quick list. I'm gonna go through those this afternoon.

edit: Holy poo poo season 30 had some decent music in there. Eminem, Modest Mouse, U2, Scissor Sisters, Destiny's Child, The Killers, Jack Johnson, Gwen Stefani, SoaD, Beck, Queens of the Stone Age, and Coldplay. Also the same season with Ashlee Simpson  I can't believe I'd ever look at 2005 with rose-tinted glasses in regards to SNL musical guests, but it beats the duds they've picked over the past decade. If we can't find a Disney star to sing this weekend, that's okay, just call up Dave Grohl.

Remember Karmin? Yeah.
