that's just because none of those people bite the bullet on making threads for their bad isekai

which is valid as someone who watches mostly stuff not remarkable enough for a thread. my only siren input is i don't think sequels should get them. maybe a poll for gauging anticipation around when the next thread is going up would be useful, r/anime does that

I too scan the sirens and ignore them if they're for sequels. I think Odd Taxi, Sonny Boy, and Nomad got sirens so they're still doing their job

there's not really any shows along the lines of those this season, most all the original anime stuff this year ended up in the second half

the problem is there are so many shows now and people's tastes have diverged so much that it's hard to know what's actually going to be popular on here besides big shonens and sequels. like "The Greatest Demon Lord Is Reborn as a Typical Nobody" looks like a show generated by an algorithm to me, the definition of 'garbage chaff', but i guarantee in a few weeks theres going to be like 5 people in here discussing how its pretty enjoyable despite the MC doing slavery or whatever.

on the flipside, something like Machikado Mazoku would probably also be shrugged off as 'garbage chaff' back in that era and is now a board favorite.

as tastes change so too should where the sirens go. i think the sirens should just represent shows that some people here are excited for. let half the shows on the list be sirens if there's a broad enough variety of tastes - i will be happy to have my list of things to look at cut in half

i'd definitely rather have 3x too many sirens than 1 too few

I did wonder why I wasn't seeing a thread for Dress-Up Darling even though people seemed to be enjoying it. I almost made it myself, but I didn't even find out about the show until it was mostly over, and I wondered if somebody knew something I didn't. Does Gojo buy an elf slave later in the manga? Was the fanservice too much, since we try to be respectable around here? We did have a Monster Musume thread, but that was years ago, and not necessarily the best comparison anyway -- MM was pretty Loony Tunes ultimately.

I don't know, I probably should have :justpost:ed

I think it was just an ecchi SOL series that didn't really lend itself to any extended discussions unless you really wanted to take a magnifying glass to its problematic aspects and the weigh the negatives/positives of such

I dislike the show personally but I think there was plenty to it that folks wanted to talk about since it kept getting brought up in the last season thread whereas discussion for plenty of other shows withered and died. Certainly more than enough chatter to justify a thread for it.

dogsicle

we totally did have the litigation of the problematic elements multiple times in multiple threads, lol. alongside more normal conversations

its very easy to convince yourself of a show not needing a thread though, especially as a season goes on. only thing i am sure of is Summer Time Render gets one as soon as streaming details for it actually hit (or passable fansubs?)

Back in a previous era (I want to say when zorak was mod) I really liked running down the anime list and checking out all the sirens to quickly know which series were worth looking into and had people talking about them, whether or not they had a dedicated thread. It was a good overview of the season with all the garbage chaff cut out. At some point I stopped doing that because only a few shows would get the sirens and they tended to be shows I was already well aware of.

If more than 3 people here think a show is notable or worth checking out it should get a siren imo. Shows that need a special highlight should be given the :frogsiren: instead

i liked bisque but a lot of what i jumped into it for was the promise that the cosplay stuff gets even cooler later on and most of what i enjjoyed about s1 was stuff like the wild detail taken to exploring cosplay and making full animated pastiches of the real shows the cosplays are taking influence from so there's not much to say about s1 other than, the cosplay stuff was interesting and it was a really intricately made show with a fine enough core dynamic. ironically the episode they clearly skimped the most on for time was one of my favorites cause "how does big boob girl cosplay hot bishounen guy" is, a legitimately fun premise

i say s1 cause cmon man there's no way a show that exploded this hard isn't getting a s2 lol

the only series i'm aware of that reached/exceeded bisque doll's level of popularity and never got a s2 when there was source material to draw from is nozaki-kun

nozaki is also like, way more structurally just a regular 4koma romcom and the anime wasn't exactly breaking the boundaries of what you'd expect from it. bisque's got more forward momentum to follow and its staff are clearly really passionate about making it so there's very good odds

I was planning to write a jokey effort post about how I didn't notice the ecchi stuff because I was distracted by the way the characters resemble the traditional Apollonian/Dionysian dichotomy, the synthesis of which is the origin of all art, as demonstrated by the fact that the main characters create their cosplays by combining their different yet complementary perspectives. One of you creatures would for sure have come in to argue with me for real, though. "Actually I think you'll find that Nietzsche wrote--" gently caress you, person I made up.
