My conure never learned words. Except perhaps "no" or "ok". Something kind of sounds like my name. I don't know. Probably not. Mostly everyone imitates him and he imitated that imitation. He chuckles though. The only other human noise he perfected was a pitiful whiny cold cough. He loves that. I got sick once and he thought it was a cool new song that was definitely worth remembering. I'm sick again today so I'm getting all the mocking coughs I can handle.

She had some lung problems and had some really bad coughs. My grey picked those up and still does them 20 years later. *cough cough cough cough* *nose blowing*

Our old rainbow lorikeet picked that up REAL quick, and would sit in his cage and go "COFF COFF COFF COFF COFF COFF COFF" all day. It was pretty funny, except for my poor girlfriend who now had to put up with coughing in stereo.

I don't smoke weed anywhere near the birds but Charlie starts making coughing sounds as soon as he sees me take the vape and go into the other room. It's also allergy season so he's doing a lot of "sneezing" lately too.

This is the face I see when I wake up this is the face I see during the day this is the face I see when I go to bed at night and finally this is the face I see whenever I wake up in the night the only time I do not see that face is when I open the cage door and then he freaks out and tries to get away from me. What do you want bird? Do you want to be my friend or not??

Stopped by Omar's (Wilshire) today, but my phone camera is busted so no pics of the bin'o'potatoes. They did have the most velcro-y blue & gold macaw I've ever interacted with. Treated me like a climbing gym/salt lick. With baby eyes.

On my way back from a job interview today, I harvested some pine cones for Toast. I got him some regular sized pine cones and some smaller closed ones. Hopefully he will enjoy them as much as the crow's ash pods!

How do other people's birds react to thunder? Toast is very chill about storms. Unlike every dog I have known, he doesn't seem to mind thunder at all. Right now it's storming and he's fast asleep (it's almost 11.30pm).

Judah also gives no fucks about storms. Well, no, the sound of rain makes him start doing bathing poses furiously as he apparently thinks it's raining inside But he's never been scared by lightning or thunder. He was hatched and spent his first couple years in Arizona, then in areas of New Mexico that have regular summer "monsoon" seasons with a lot of thunderstorms, so he's pretty acclimated to them. The bathing thing makes me never want to move away from them Slaughterhouse-Ive posted:My birds tend to get really quiet and kinda doze off when the weather's bad

Uh... need some advice here. When I just now let Pion out the cage, after getting home, he suddenly seems to have trouble flying properly. Nothing seemed wrong yesterday. His wings seem very floppy in movement, it's not "sharp" at all, as if he has trouble putting energy into it. I should probably contact a vet.

I'm visiting my parents for a week, and my conure is determined to get me into trouble. His "Hey, you're not paying enough attention to me, stop ignoring me!" vocalisation is a shriek followed by a tweet. My mother is convinced that this sounds like "Sieg Heil! , and that I've been teaching him inapropriate language. Listening to him, I think she may have a point. Just like the little bastard to turn out to be a closet Nazi.

Talked to a vet (actually several, everywhere I called was closing up shop for the day or had their bird specialists gone) and no clear diagnosis. Pion seems perhaps a little more reluctant to fly than usual, but his movements may have improved some already. I tried feeling for anything broken but don't notice anything immediately. Granted it's hard, part because Pion hates it, and part because I don't know what to look for... I'll probably keep him on observation until tomorrow morning and then make a decision whether to bring him in then. In better news, Putni suddenly flew down and landed on my head, I think intentionally! He stayed for perhaps 10-20 seconds, but got scared off when I sat down in the couch. Pion was on my shoulder during this.
