Always the Frito feet! Mabel looks like a very good dog! Remy and greyhounds in general have the best sad pathetic look it slays me. Also I think Reese may be somewhat defective because he never wanted to get up on the furniture. Have an inter-species snuggle pic! Happy New Year!

Here's the records for our dogs: Tennyson- http://www.greyhound-data.com/d?i=2177239 - we are not proud of his racing name Tess- http://www.greyhound-data.com/d?i=1815266 - a whopping 22 races! Casey- http://www.greyhound-data.com/d?i=1761452 - 106 races before he broke his hock, and in 52 of them, he got first place

btw for that site you probably want to make an account, otherwise you can only get to one page at a time, and by searching for the dog's racing name directly, not clicking on links. edit: holy poo poo that first dog name hahahahahahah I'm looking at Abby's record, her last race she had a collision so I'm guessing that's why she stopped. One of them has a video! http://www.greyhound-data.com/d?l=1545493 (the one on 5/11/10) actionjackson fucked around with this message at 21:33 on Jan 5, 2019 |

Our Ruby used to be Torney. It was difficult to find her because her vet tracked down her record and told me over the phone, so I assumed it was "Tawny" despite her being a black dog

Can't seem to be able to find Taz's (aka "Izzy Go") results, but I remember finding them in the South Australian greyhound racing archives ages ago - including some videos of him racing, even! I'll have to take another look after work, to see if I can find them. (From memory he didn't do too many races. He won quite a lot of them, up until he suffered from an injury which forced him to retire, after taking some losses on the track) But also, what brand nail trimmers/files do you all recommend? I'm thinking a file might be better (I think he seems to be a little more comfortable with that, over having his nails cut), but I'm open to suggestions either way - I'm pretty inexperienced in this regard.

My dog does not allow me to trim his nails but PetSmart always says he's perfectly behaved when I take him there. So that's what we do.

We use a dremel (plus lots of peanut butter as a bribe) for maintenance, but still take Sparty to Petsmart occasionally. Cookie absolutely refuses to be bribed so we have to go anyway

Not doing a good job on nails is my worst failing as a dog owner we do them sometimes but her quick is so drat long that it’s hard to do it regularly, because she squirms like crazy making it tough to take off tiny amounts of nail

With union I just got the kind that look like weird fat scissors (with tiny curved blades, and a metal 'stopper'). The guillotine type didn't work well, her nails would slip or get cut crooked, I could be more precise with the nippers. With Josie, she absolutely hates having her paws messed with and would cry and scream and fight. We were working on it with bribes and distractions and interspersing with vet trips to get nails trimmed. Then she developed lupoid onychodystrophy and now all her nails are separated from the quick or crumbling and flaking away or have fallen off (some traumatically). So now she straight up scary growls when she thinks my gaze is directed at her toes.

I know, it started in September and she's down to the last two holdouts. it took a while for the vet to narrow down what was going on (the only definite test involves excising a full nail, which we didn't want to do). They are verrrrry slowly starting to grow back, such ugly pitiful little quicks. I'm just hoping they don't everyday hurt her but they're so easy for her to bonk one while zooming around the garden. We had a couple little crying sessions because I felt so bad for my girl who didn't understand why she was miserable. It's too early to say if they'll regrow healthy and well formed, but she's got a pinkie one that's going sideways. She hasn't gotten many walks in the last couple months. :[ But hopefully when they grow back things will be fine. Lifetime condition requiring daily supplements. She just sees it as extra treats of delicious flavoured powder and fish oil mixed in with something yummy. Like a deluxe salad https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LmmHc_8utWQ

I'm glad she's at least doing better. Sparty has learned to tolerate us messing with his feet because, due to his stupid muddy pee-pit, we have to wipe them off every time we go outside. He gives funny little growls and grumbles if you move around and shift his legs while he's cuddling in bed though Good luck Josie-wosey, feel better soon! Phoenix area goons- AAGI does a monthly nail clipping, greys only, for $5 per hound. It’s a great way to socialize your dog a little, and there is room for off leash play too.

Oh drat, I'm so sorry to hear that about Josie! And yeah, I think I'll have to go to a dog groomer primarily, as well as using a dremel for maintenance+convenience. (Or those scissor things skoolmunkee mentioned? I'm feeling slightly more confident about the dremel though, since I'm always afraid I'll do something wrong, if I try cutting them) What do you do about their dewclaws though, by the way? (If anything, I suppose) Since that would probably be the biggest challenge, right?

Oh also, regarding grey racing results, I've finally found Tazo's! Here is his first win (race 2, if you need to select it. There's also a video! Here's another one, where his win is described as "a tradesman-like performance" by the commentator I'll have to remember that one, haha) and here are his full career stats, in case anyone is interested. (Else you'll have to create an account. If you do make one though, you can view videos and all sorts, for each of the dogs) Not sure when he received his paw/leg injury, but it must've been sometime between April and July 2016. (Always feel bad about that, even though it's what resulted in me adopting him. Poor thing! ) Major Isoor fucked around with this message at 11:15 on Jan 8, 2019 |

Jake ran 183 races back in his day: http://www.greyhound-data.com/d?whobeat=1737630. He didn’t win much. Also, if you are getting race videos of your hound from trackinfo.com, try to save them or back them up somewhere. Now that Jake is getting older, they have been purging his older race videos. I don’t have much info on Barley, but I know she raced under Jojo Dancer JH, and ran 50 some-odd races.
