To be clear, he's not Atlas. Andreas is a real person who is 42 and appears to have something of a real resume and court record, even. Atlas was a strange teen. They don't even look similar.

was digging through some old notes and found an old bitcoin legend from our forums ... This figure's name is Emmedick Fartner. He sat in his study next to his computer, mindlessly browsing a pornographic site, not finding much of interest. It was raining quite hard outside, but he could not hear the rain over the sound of his overstressed video cards. One of the computers on the rack suddenly made a ding sound; Mr. Fartner had configured his computers to do that whenever they mined a bitcoin, these days a rare occurrence. He walked over and turned on the monitor so he could smugly view his latest bitcoin. Suddenly the computer shook, and one of the capacitors popped, releasing smoke into the air. He looked with shock as the computer continued to shake. Suddenly a voice said "helloooo..... Emmedick....". It sounded like his father, who recently died in a bizarre whip and clothespin accident; a 7 foot tall transvestite called the police, and his family had suddenly discovered his odd fetishes. "Father? Father is that you?" A face suddenly appeared in the smoke from the capacitor. "yes it is son, i have been reincarnated, as a bitcoin" "My father is a bitcoin?" "yes son it is I, your father, i am now a bitcoin. i may be worthless but not as worthless as you, you nerdass" "father why" "son i am not a bitcoin, this is weed smoke. you are high as balls, INHALE ME SON!!!!!!!" "YES FATHER I WILL INHALE YOU" Emmerdick takes a deep breath and inhales the smoke. "son i am dissapoint, the smoke is deadly poison and you will now die" emmerdick fartner died seconds later. the police investigation found that the smoke was only steam and harmless! WHat happen to him?!?

Seriously guys, anyone else ready to start a class action against MtGox? (self.Bitcoin) submitted 1 hour ago* by alt229 I know it's my fault for leaving more money than I wanted to lose up there but I'm guessing I'm not the only one who made this mistake. If MtGox goes under with our money, what are the step to take legal action? Edit: For the record I've never been 100% against regulation. There's a happy medium between lovely companies stealing a ton of money from a few people and and the government stealing a little bit from everyone.

[–]creditcardssuckk[S] 1 point 5 minutes ago let's use another number for fun, like a $100mil transaction, saving $2.3mil on $100mil would be a big deal. if all i had to do was spend a little extra time verifying an address to save that much money then it doesn't seem so bad. i don't think many people would turn down an extra $2.3mil for something so simple, but maybe they would which is why we should have the choice of using either system. either $102.3mil with insured sending capabilities or $100mil without.

I'm not sure how kosher it is to share the court record per the forum's rules. It's nothing damning or anything. Have something he posted re: drones a year ago. He has the sensible stance that giving police officers drones will lead to abuses of power, which I agree with completely. But halfway through, he starts making an interesting point.

Bitcoin Trading Faces Increased Police Scrutiny Estonian authorities have taken steps to clamp down on what they view as illegal exchanges set up within the republic to trade in Bitcoin. The website btc.ee, which organized trades of Bitcoin, currently runs a message advising its users that it has "temporarily stopped trading owing to threats issued by the Estonian police." Otto de Voogd, the site's operator, told ERR News that he had received e-mails in which the Estonian Financial Intelligence Unit requested, under the Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing Prevention Act, "copies of IDs of clients, internal measures or procedure of due diligence," and evidence btc.ee was registered as a trader of currencies. If these requests were not met, according to the emails, a maximum of a €32,000 fine and three years in prison was possible. Although De Voogd characterized the notification as "threats," police officials emphasized this is not the case. "Naturally the police have not threatened anyone, as Mr. De Voogd claims," Aivar Paul, Estonian Police spokesman, told ERR News. "We have simply noted in conversation with Mr. de Voogd that without the registration required by the Money Laundering and Terrorism Prevention Act, offering financial service could be grounds for criminal proceedings for illegal economic activity, which is a standard practice for, say, pawnshops. Being an alternative payment broker service provider means a obligation to fulfil requirements of [the above-mentioned Act]," Paul said.
